The Adrian Lady Blackhawks started the 2009-2010 basketball season Tuesday, December 1 in the WEMO Conference Tournament in Osceola. Adrian was seeded 1st in the tournament and were up against the No. 8 seed Miami Lady Eagles. The girls started off strong and never looked back as they easily defeated Miami 70 to 13.

On Thursday night the girls went up against the Drexel Lady Bobcats. Once again they came out strong and put up 20 points to Drexel’s 9 in the first quarter. In the second quarter they scored 9 to end the first half up 29-16. In second half action Adrian outscored the Bobcats 30 to 13 as they went on to win the contest 59-29. Coach Dingman commented, “This was a good game for us. We had great bench play from LeeAnna Reid and Emily Hughes. Our defensive pressure really helped us win.”

In the championship round of the WEMO tournament, the Adrian Lady Blackhawks fell to the Lady Osceola Indians in a tough 49-44 loss. At the end of the second half, Osceola was in the lead 23-18. Adrian tried to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, but fell short of a victory. Coach Dingman said, “It was a tight game all the way through. We just could not get anything started on offense. Olivia Case did a great job defending Garrison and that made a big difference but will not show up in game stats.”

Right: Courtney Miller tries to stop Drexel’s Marah Shipley from scoring last Thursday night.

Far right: LeeAnna Reid shoots for two over the hand of Shelby Townsend of Osceola.
