Blackhawks win 80th Annual Archie Tournament

The Adrian Blackhawks participated in the 80th Annual Archie Tournament last week. The Blackhawks were the number 1 seed and went up against Heartland on Monday, January 25. They had no trouble and won the contest 69 to 25. Adrian had a total of 19 steals and only 9 turnovers in the game. They were 14 of 19 from the free throw line and shot 45% from the floor. Coach Wheeler said, “We did a much better job on defense. Eric Moles did a nice job rebounding. I was also pleased with our assist to turnover ratio.”
In the second round of the tournament, the Blackhawks played the Archie Whirlwinds. In a typical Adrian-Archie game, it was a close game and came down to the wire. Adrian held on and won the game 53 to 49 to advance to the championship game. Coach Wheeler commented, “This was a good win. Archie was well prepared. We struggled shooting but our defense helped bail us out.”
In the championship game Adrian took on the Barstow Knights. The Blackhawks had just played the Knights on January 12 which ended in a one point victory. This game proved to be just as exciting as Adrian prevailed 38 to 34. This win moved their record to a perfect 15 and 0. Coach Wheeler said, “This was a fine game played by both teams. We did a nice job guarding. We had several guys hit some big shots late in the game. I’m very proud of the team.”
