The Adrian Blackhawks traveled to El Dorado Springs to take on the Bulldogs in the final matchup before state football playoffs begin.

Adrian fell behind early in the first quarter on an interception return. The extra point failed and the Bulldogs were up 6 to 0. In the second quarter El Dorado had a 41 yard touchdown run. Their try for 2 failed and the host Bulldogs led 12 to 0.  After the Bulldogs scored, Adrian found life and just 16 seconds later would find paydirt on a 50 yard pass from Austin Pitts to Joe Collins. Brendin White’s kick was good and Adrian cut the lead to 7 to 12. With momentum seemingly in Adrian’s favor El Dorado marched down the field to extend their lead. Adrian held the Bulldogs on the try for 2 and the score stood at 18 to 7 with 2:21 remaining on the clock.

It would have been easy for the Blackhawks to fold up the tent before halftime but that would not be the case as Austin Pitts found Rian Lewis on a 22 yard pass with 14 seconds remaining before half. Brendin White’s PAT was good and Adrian would take a 14 to 12 lead heading into the locker room.  Adrian extended their own lead and preserved the victory with a 6 yard touchdown run by Logan Tallman in the third quarter and a 66 yard touchdown run by Austin Corley in the fourth quarter. Both extra point kicks were good by White as Adrian posted a 28 to 18 victory.

This type of gutsy win comes at a good time for the Blackhawks. They host the Osceola Indians this Thursday at the athletic complex. The Indians blanked the Blackhawks three weeks ago in Osceola. Adrian showed they had plenty of fight in them against El Dorado. They will need the same fight this week to make amends for the first matchup with Osceola.

Coach Bruto commented, “This was a BIG win for us. El Dorado Springs is a good team. We had to play four quarters of good ball in order to win. We played with a lot of fire against them. We meet Osceola at home Thursday night (tonight). We must play with the same intensity this week to bring home a win.”

Right: Brendin White, 24, puts a hit on the El Dorado Springs ball carrier last Friday night during the Blackhawks last regular season game.

Far right: After a reception, Joe Collins tucks the ball and takes off to pick up yardage.
