Absolutely perfect football weather last Friday set the stage for a near flawless performance by the Adrian Blackhawks. Adrian traveled to Rich Hill to take on the Tigers and left on the victorious end of a 55-7 score.

Adrian dominated in every offensive category. As a team Adrian rushed for 338 yards to Rich Hill’s 83. Sawyer Highley led the way with 91 yards on fourteen attempts. Adrian’s offense also netted 84 yards passing to Rich Hill’s 8.

A lot can be said for how the offense has come around lately, but it should be equally noted how well the defense has played. Minus the one busted play, Adrian gave up 12 yards rushing and 8 yards passing. Adrian did not turn the ball over this game but managed to take two fumble recoveries.

Adrian started the year pretty slow and things looked rather tough for the Blackhawks. The players have settled into their positions and are improving every week leading into district play. This week will be a huge test to see how far the team has come. The Blackhawks travel to face a Cass Midway Viking team that is celebrating 50 years of Viking football. The Vikings will be playing in front of a crowd that expects them to play well and win, and the Blackhawks hope to send their fans home dejected and notch another victory in one of the greatest rivalries in high school football.

Right: Austin Alexander, 55, rushes Rich Hill’s quarterback Josh Robb during action Friday night against the Tigers.

Far right: Sawyer Highley, junior, 31, follows the blocking of his teammates to pick up yardage.
