Blackhawks pull it together and defeat Bulldogs 54-0

The Adrian Blackhawks opened the home portion of the 2010 football season hosting WEMO conference rival Appleton City Bulldogs. Adrian put together a complete game dominating the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball from start to finish. When the final seconds ticked off Adrian would leave the field with a 54-0 victory over Appleton City.
Adrian closed out the first half of play on an acrobatic catch and twisting dive by Brandt McMillan. Brendin White was good on 4 of 5 second quarter extra points bringing the score to 47-0 at halftime. Adrian operated under the running clock the entire second half but managed to add another score when junior varsity running back Briar Corbin ripped off an impressive 44 yard touchdown run of his own. White’s successful extra point attempt closed out the scoring in the 54 point blowout win.
Much of the second half gave the home crowd the opportunity to view the progress of the Blackhawk junior varsity squad even though the accelerated clock limited the number of plays they were able to work into the game. The brilliant first half performance of the varsity squad afforded the team the luxury of resting the starters while giving the younger guys some valuable playing time. “We had a better week of practice with more enthusiasm” said Head Coach George Bruto. “We played with more fire this week. We were doing the little things better.”
Adrian extended its WEMO conference winning streak to 33 games. They look to extend that streak this Friday as they host the Rich Hill Tigers in front of a Homecoming crowd at the Adrian Sports Complex.
Right: Brandt McMillan made this reception at the ten yard line where he drug the Appleton City defender, twisted and did a reverse dive into the end zone for the touchdown before halftime last Friday night.
Middle: Ethan Weeks, 11, makes the tackle on Appleton City’s number 17 to stop the play.
Far right: Luke Hough carried the ball into the end zone for the score during action last Friday night at home against Appleton City.
