The Adrian Blackhawks kicked off the 2011 football season Friday night by hosting the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs at the Adrian Athletic Complex. The weather was beautiful as was the opening drive by the Blackhawks offensive unit. But the outcome was ugly for the host team and its fans as the visiting Bulldogs handed Adrian a lopsided 27-7 defeat.

Adrian won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. After a nice return, Adrian smash-mouthed their way down the field to paydirt when Sawyer Highley crossed the goal line.  Brendin White’s extra point was good, giving Adrian the early, and impressive, lead. The Bulldogs gained the lead before halftime on a 22 yard run by Tanner Hixson against a Blackhawk defense that was showing signs of being tired.

Adrian has a chance this week to make amends for their performance last week when they play host to the Archie Whirlwinds. The Whirlwinds will come to Adrian after whipping the Windsor Greyhounds 47-7 in Archie last Friday.

Right: Adrian’s Harrison Wainwright stops El Dorado’s #24 from gaining yardage during the season opener Friday night at home.

Far right: Sawyer Highley, 31, tries to gain some yardage against the Bulldogs. Eric Moles, 45, helps by blocking El Dorado’s #65.
