The much anticipated start of the 2009 Blackhawks football season kicked off last Friday at the Adrian Sports Complex as Adrian hosted the Butler Bears.

Adrian received the ball first but the game was well into the second quarter before either team put a point on the board. Adrian was first to strike paydirt as Luke Hough tore off an outstanding 20 yard run with 8:26 on the clock in the second quarter of play.

Adrian’s defense started the game much better than they finished but came together when needed to keep the offensive attack of the Bears at bay while Adrian’s offense worked to knock the rust off its sputtering machine. With 11:52 on the clock in the final quarter of play, Erik White burst through the line on his way to a 23yd scoring run. Skylar Kariker’s kick was good making the game score 14-6 Adrian.

“This was a great win for us,” said head coach George Bruto. “It’s always good to start the season with a win. We did make a few mistakes, but will take care of them this week.”

Adrian hosts Galena, Kansas this Friday at the sports complex. “We must play better this week to get the win,” said Bruto. “Galena will be one of the best teams we will play this year,” he added. “ They are well coached and have a lot of good players.”
