Blackhawks hang on for 35-29 overtime win

By MIKE BURRIS
Friday night’s matchup between the Adrian Blackhawks and the Cass Midway Vikings had a little bit of everything in it which added up to another classic battle between the two rival schools. There was the swinging gate, missed field goals, fumbles, interceptions and overtime.
The two teams would take turns leading the ballgame. Adrian led off the scoring on a short run by Micheal Guinn. Midway answered rather quickly on their next possession. The tug-of-war with the lead continued and the Blackhawks would lead 14-8 with 3:57 before halftime; however, Midway would regain the lead just before the half.
The game would head into overtime. Ethan Weeks found Eric Moles on a 14 yard touchdown pass on their first possession. Adrian would tempt fate by trying a two point conversion that was stuffed. Midway got the ball to the 12 yard line, and Weeks made the defensive play of the game, stepping in front of a Taylor Ayers pass to the Midway receiver at the goal line to seal the win for the Adrian Blackhawks.
Adrian extended its conference winning streak to 35 games with its victory over Cass Midway. They look to add to it this Friday as they travel to Osceola to take on the Indians. Osceola is 3-3 on the season and winless in conference play. Adrian stands at 6-0 overall with a 5-0 conference record.
Adrian Head Coach George Bruto summed things up best with his thoughts on the contest. “It was a typical Adrian/Midway game.”
Right: Ethan Weeks stepped in front of a Midway pass to end the overtime, giving the Blackhawks the victory.
Middle: Ivan Wendleton and Joe Collins go after Midway’s Taylor Ayres to stop the play.
Far right: Briar Corbin, #23, goes up and over to pick up extra yardage against the Midway Vikings last Friday night.
