Blackhawks escape with 21-13 victory over Drexel Bobcats

The Adrian Blackhawks took on the Drexel Bobcats last Friday night in their third consecutive road game to open the season. And, for the second straight week, were able to walk away from the game on the fortunate side of a 21-13 score.

All signs pointed to Adrian hanging up a lopsided final score. But, that was before Drexel had their first possession of the game. The Bobcats would enter halftime with a lead against an Adrian team that looked uninspired and unmotivated to win.

Drexel received the second half kick off and marched down the field looking to add to their lead.  Micheal Guinn would dash those hopes as he stepped in front of the Bobcat receiver and hauled in an interception, returning it 83 yards for the defensive touchdown. Luke Hough would take the ball into the endzone on the two point conversion attempt and give the Blackhawks a sudden 14-13 lead. Hough’s conversion would prove to be the game winning points. Guinn would have his third touchdown of the game late in the third quarter following an Eric Moles interception. Brendin White would make the extra point and extend the lead to 21-13. The fourth quarter would be scoreless, allowing the Blackhawks to sneak off the field with a win despite having been outplayed on both sides of the ball.

The Blackhawks look to rectify their offensive woes this week as they welcome the Appleton City Bulldogs to the sports complex.  Senior night will be held this week before the first home game of the season. Look for Adrian to work toward fixing what has been missing from their performances the past couple of weeks. Adrian moves to 3 and 0 overall and 2 and 0 in conference play.

Right: Briar Corbin, 23, runs the ball as Ivan Wendleton, 54, puts a block on a Drexel Bobcat defender.

Far right: Levi Cunningham, 85, Vince Romi, 50, and Joe Collins, 40, team up to stop the Bobcat drive.
