Blackhawks dominate another WEMO Conference opponent

Adrian improved its conference record to 3-0 and their overall record to 5-2 after dominating yet another WEMO opponent at the sports complex. This week’s victim was the Osceola Indians, who entered the game with an impressive 5-1 record. While Adrian’s offense clicked on all cylinders, the Blackhawks defense put on a clinic, shutting out its third straight conference opponent. The combined scoring of the first three conference games stands at Adrian 127, Opponents 0.
Adrian methodically scored in every quarter of play by playing sound, fundamental football and eliminating costly mistakes that plagued them in their two losses of the year. Adrian gave up only one interception in the ballgame and zero fumbles. Penalties were limited to 3 for 30 yards. Erik White opened the scoring with a 5-yard run with 10:07 on the clock in the first quarter. Skylar Kariker intercepted an Osceola pass and returned it nearly the length of the field, setting up a 9-yard Tuff Wimberly touchdown run with 22 seconds before the half, giving the Blackhawks an insurmountable 21-0 lead.
The third quarter had Trevor Gregg passing to White for a 30-yard touchdown play. White’s fourth quarter rushing touchdown made the score 34 to nothing. Chopper Bagby punctuated the scoring by getting a safety for the defense.
“This was a big win for us. It’s getting us ready for District next week” said Head Coach George Bruto. “This week is homecoming and our first district game. We need to play well,” he added. “ We are playing like a team now and doing what it takes to win.”
Adrian hosts the Drexel Bobcats this coming Friday for Homecoming. This is an important matchup between district opponents. A good first game in districts will set the tone for the next two before heading into the playoffs.
