Blackhawks defeat Bears 40-20 for District Championship

By MIKE BURRIS
The Adrian Blackhawks traveled to Butler last Thursday to take on the Bears in the final game of district play. Both teams entered the matchup with 2-0 records with the winner bringing home the District 13 Championship title. The Blackhawks would emerge victorious in their first year of Class 2 football action by defeating Butler 40-20.
Adrian opened the scoring on a couple of first quarter touchdown runs by Micheal Guinn. Brendin White was perfect on both extra point attempts. The Blackhawks led 14-0 and appeared to be in cruise control when Butler struck on a quick touchdown drive. The ensuing run for two points failed.
The Blackhawks added a third touchdown for the game right before the half when Luke Hough found paydirt from the four yard line to raise the score to 20-6 in favor of Adrian. Brendin White’s successful point after attempt provided what would be the winning point of the ball game. The Blackhawks and Bears traded off touchdowns the remainder of the game. The team’s final touchdown came with 5:26 remaining in the game. The extra point attempt failed, leaving the final score set at 40-20.
Adrian will play their first Class 2 playoff game Wednesday when they host the Carrollton Trojans. The Trojans are a team featuring several big players with a lot of heart and a quarterback with a lot of speed. The Blackhawks will have to play their best game of the year to come out on top. They will need to come out fired up and remain that way for four quarters of football and never let up.
