Blackhawks bounce back with 34-0 win over Sherwood

By MIKE BURRIS
Now that’s more like it. For the first time all year, and when it mattered most, the Adrian Blackhawks football team put together four quarters of solid football and dominated the visiting Sherwood Marksmen in the first game of District 13 action by shutting them out 34-0.
Despite many in the crowd being nervous about the game, due in large part to last week’s disappointing display, the game was never in doubt. The first score of the game came when Adrian took the opening kick and chewed up 4:19 on the clock before Luke Hough punched it in from the 4 yard line. Brendin White’s extra point put the host Blackhawks up 7-0 before Sherwood even had their hands on the ball. Adrian’s lead was stretched to 21-0 heading into halftime.
You know things are going well when you score five touchdowns by four different ball carriers while the defense is shutting down the opposing offense. The fire and intensity was there on both sides of the ball. Outside of a few sloppy errors on offense and a couple of missed interception opportunities on defense, the Adrian Blackhawks have to be feeling a little more upbeat after this game.
Cole Camp will travel to Adrian looking to avenge the loss against Butler last week. Look for Adrian to show that yes, they won their first Class 2 District game, but that doesn’t mean it is going to be easy.
Coach Bruto commented, “This was a big win for us. You never want to start districts with a loss. It’s uphill from here on. This is a big game with Cole Camp. It’s the first time we’ve ever played them. They are big, upfront and have a couple of good backs. So, it will be a big challenge for us.”
