Last Monday night the Adrian Blackhawks opened up their regular season play at home hosting the Liberal Bulldogs. The junior varsity boy’s team started the night off. The Blackhawks only scored 10 points in the first half to the Bulldog’s 16. When the Blackhawks came back out in the second half Liberal was too much to handle as they scored 21 points to the Blackhawks’ 11, leaving the final score 21-37.

Coach Hubbard commented “We have a lot to work on but the boys did well with the amount of time they have had together at practice. We will improve on our fundamentals and that will make us a better team. Good effort but we lost to a very good team with Liberal.”

Following the JV boys were the Adrian Lady Blackhawks who had a 3-1 record going into this game. Final score was 47-45. Coach Dingman commented, “Hard fought game. We overcame early turnovers to come back and win. Rebounded okay and had big games from LeeAnna and Courtney.”

The final game of the night was the Adrian Blackhawk varsity boys. They came ready to play and won 54-33. Coach Basore commented, “The kids did a good job of getting the ball to the post and running the offense.”

The Lady Blackhawks took to the road as they traveled to Butler last Friday night to take on the Bears. The final score was 63-41. “We played well. Came out slow but hit our stride in the third quarter. Defense came up big and still let up too many offensive rebounds and had too many turnovers but the girls shot well and made the larger part of their free throws. Good district win lets us know where we stand early in the season,” commented Coach Dingman.

In the boys contest, the Blackhawks came up short against the Bears 41-44. In the final period of play Adrian managed to outscore their opponent 14 to 11 but it wasn’t enough.

Monday night, December 13 the Blackhawks took to the road again as they traveled to Sherwood for non-conference play. The Lady Blackhawks had three solid quarters of play to seal the 54 to 49 victory. Coach Dingman stated, “One of our better starts of the year. We played well. One of our better rebounding games of the year. This was a good way to go into the break, on a 3 game winning streak. Now it is time to work on stuff over the break.”

In the boys contest Adrian defeated Sherwood 55 to 46. Coach Basore said, “The kids played hard and did a good job moving without the basketball.”
