Twenty-six adults, ages 62-91, recently completely a 10-week, 20 sessions program to increase bone density, strength, balance and flexibility. While the class had a wide variety of health-related problems during the 10 weeks, the beginner’s class increased their strength by an average of 47 percent, their flexibility by 65% and everyone saw an improvement in balance.

Participants met twice a week at the Bates County Memorial Hospital Educational Center for one hour of weight lifting and strength- building exercises. According to Jenkins, “We become very bonded during the program. While each person works at his/her own level of ability, the members of the classes enough and help each other. Each person takes pleasure in the others’ successes.”
