Adrian takes second in Freshman tournament
The Adrian Freshman Tournament was held last week with the Adrian boys playing on Tuesday night against the Butler Bears. Final score was 21 to 19. Coach Hubbard commented, “The boys did a great job coming back in the second half and playing good defense and running the offense affectively. Our bench did an excellent job tonight too.”
Going into the second game of the tournament the Blackhawks played Appleton City. The final score was 37-34. “We were down 5 points at half and down by 10 points going into the fourth quarter and the guys did a great job of playing defense in the final period and pulled out a last second shot to get the win. It was a super team effort for us to advance to the championship game,” said Coach Hubbard.
Advancing to the final game they played the 1st seed Harrisonville Wildcats. The Blackhawks only scored 8 points in the first half to Harrisonville’s 28 and from that the Blackhawks couldn’t come back in the second half and lost 15 to 45. Coach Hubbard commented, “Harrisonville is a very good, well disciplined team that deserved to be tournament champs. They owned the court 3 nights in a row. We played hard but didn’t handle the full court pressure very well. Our team gave 100% but came up short against a very talented Harrisonville team. I was proud of the boys for not giving up and playing their hardest.”
