The Adrian Blackhawks track teams participated in the Midway Invitational Tuesday, April 8. The girls placed 2nd and the boys finished 4th. Coach Basore said, “It was a good night again for the girls. Cheyenne Smith ran a personal best in the 800. Brenna Adkins had a good night in her three open events getting 3 new personal bests, and Jessica Willerton ran a personal best in the 100m. We had two relays break the previous meet records. The 4x100 and 4x400 teams ran personal bests and broke the meet records in each relay. The girls are putting in the hard work and they are getting stronger with their events every week.”

Coach Cochran said, “We were missing six athletes today because of a math contest, so, team wise, we finished lower than usual. Because of that, I asked some kids to do some events that they weren’t used to. I thought the kids fought hard through that adversity. A couple of high points from the meet were Austin Corley setting meet records in the 110m hurdles and the 400m dash. We just need to keep working hard with the middle of our schedule coming up.”

Thursday, April 10 Adrian hosted their second track meet of the year with 11 teams participating. The girls earned another 1st place finish and the boys came in with a 2nd place finish. “For the most part it was a good night to run” stated Coach Basore. “The girls are getting faster and their times are coming down. It was good to win our home meet as well.”

“Overall not too bad of a day to run,” stated Coach Cochran. “There was a little wind, but I thought it helped the sprinters - not so much the distance runners. We had 18 personal bests which was great. It shows the boys are improving. We finished 2nd as a team which is good. Our field events need to improve overall because we do not get many points from them. We will keep working and getting better, though.”
