Adrian Bit & Spur Club back in the saddle again

The Adrian Bit & Spur Club is not forgotten. It is revitalized and going strong again 55 years later. Stories abound in the community about the old horse shows where the horse trailers filled the entire park -- when there was nothing in the park except for a lone baseball field and the arena. Voted multiple times the best show in the state of Missouri. And, no one will hesitate to tell you about the rodeos that used to be held annually. Everyone looked forward to the annual rodeo and parade.
In June, Matt Stark, visiting with Petey Robey, mentioned the possibility of getting the club going again. Pete paid for an ad in the paper that requested anybody interested in the Club show up at Ferguson arena Thursday, June 11. Approximately 30 people attended that first night.
On July 4th the club’s first official outing was the Adrian Parade. On August 28, with a borrowed timer, borrowed PA, and a charge at Yoss, they held their first event, a Jackpot Barrel Race. It took a lot of folks, putting in a lot of effort, to get the arena and surrounding area ready for this event.
In the short span of time since then, the Bit and Spur Club has hosted the MBRA, participated in the Amsterdam Jubilee Parade, and held three more Jackpot Barrel Races.
The Club’s goals are to be an all around family oriented, equestrian club with horse shows, fun shows, jackpot barrel races, rodeos, clinics/lessons, camp outs, trail rides, team sorting/penning and more; all close to home, at an affordable price where anyone can afford to participate. Even if you don’t have a horse, spectators are always welcome, friendship is abundant, and there is always plenty to do.
They meet at the arena every Thursday evening with the first Thursday of the month a potluck dinner followed by Club meeting. Even in bad weather, someone will generally be there wishing it was nice weather and visiting with all that come by.
Next up for the Club is Sight and Safety Night. Members of the Club will be there with wagon rides and treats. Be sure to stop by and say “Hey”. In the meantime, Happy Trails!
