2014 Track Season begins for Adrian Blackhawks

The Adrian Blackhawks boys and girls track teams opened the 2014 track season at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg for an indoor meet on Tuesday, March 25.

The Boys Head Coach Matt Cochran commented, “For the first meet of the year, I thought the kids ran fairly well. We are not in our best shape, but that is to be expected this early into the season. The 1600 Meter and the 3200 Meter were run outside, and it was miserably cold. Those times weren’t great, but a lot of that was due to the cold. There were upwards of 20 schools there so the competition was good. We have a lot of kids who haven’t been out for track before, and this was a real eye-opener for them. We have a ways to go, but it was a good start.”

Friday, March 28 the teams participated in the Brutus Hamilton Track Meet held at Harrisonville. The boys placed 7th overall and the girls placed 4th.

The boys Head Coach Matt Cochran commented on the meet. “Lots of very good competition today. We were the smallest school in attendance by far. We won’t see this kind of competition very often. I thought the kids stepped up for the most part. Team wise we didn’t fair very well, but I expected that. We had numerous improvements from our track meet just two days ago. I was pretty happy with the results. Austin Corley winning the 100M and 330M Hurdles was impressive. We still have a lot of improvement to make, but we are heading in the right direction.”

Girls Head Coach Amy Basore commented: “I thought the girls competed very well for the size of schools that were at this track meet. We finished 4th overall as a team and we improved in our times from Tuesday’s track meet at UCM. Looking forward to this season and watching these girls improve every meet.”
