United in Marriage
Katharyn Elizabeth Staples of Platte City and Joel Micah Merritt of Grandview were married at noon on July 14, 2007 at the Countryside Bistro near Maryville, MO. Paul McKim of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville performed the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Wayne and Mary Alice Staples of Burlington Junction, MO. The groom is the son of Wesley and Sue Merritt of Butler.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length white strapless gown accented with a white ribbon bow in the back at the waist and rows of ribbon around the skirt. Her waist-length veil was edged with white ribbon. She carried a bouquet of white roses, white calla lillies and periwinkles.
The maid of honor was Tiffany Davis of Burlington Junction, friend of the bride. She wore a periwinkle blue two-piece long dress and carried a bouquet of white calla lillies. The bride’s cousin, Sarah Rick of Normal, IL, assisted with the guest book. The bride’s aunt, Linda Gutherie of Oak Grove, and Sifonya Moad of Grandview, friend of the groom, served punch and wedding cake. The vocalist was Phyllis Shipley of Maryville.
The best man was Ben Merritt of Grandview, brother of the groom. Ushers were John Staples of Burlington Junction, brother of the bride, and Nick Merrigan of Maryville, friend of the groom.
A luncheon reception was served directly after the ceremony.
The groom’s parents hosted a reception August 11 at the Ballard School.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of West Nodaway High School and 2004 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University of Maryville.
She holds a Bachelors of Science in Marketing and Merchandising. She is employed as a manager in the Home area of Stein Mart in North Kansas City.
The groom is a 1996 graduate of Ballard High School, 1998 graduate of Fort Scott Community College and 2005 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University of Maryville with a Bachelors of Science. He is employed as a Customer Service Representative at Chrysler Financial in Overland Park, KS.
After the wedding, the couple had their honeymoon in Branson, MO. They reside in Platte City, MO.
