Community Service Projects
Matt Sears’ English III class just completed their community service projects. In groups of 3 or 4 kids, they planned and carried out a variety of projects for causes local and international. They raised over $500 for causes such as the Humane Society, the Bates County Children’s Center, Wayside Waifs and more. They also collected over 800 plastic bottles for recycling, started planning a car show for Fighting for Jackson, guided elementary students in writing letters to soldiers and more.
Completing these projects involved meeting a number of learning targets including participating in the group discussions at the beginning of the projects, researching and contacting the people at various causes, preparing and presenting presentations about their projects to their class, and writing business letters to the organizations for whom they worked.
