Blackhawk Music Notes a New Day
The Adrian R-III School District is taking a new path toward building its number of students involved in fine arts. This year, the band will be open to junior high students and high school students that would like to participate on an extracurricular level. Enrollment in both choral and band classes has been difficult for many students to fit into their schedule and this is a MSHSAA approved method to augment numbers in smaller districts. High school students will also be able to participate in the vocal/choral program without being enrolled during the school day. Participation will simply require attendance at morning and/or evening rehearsals and performances at concerts and ballgames.
The 2009-2010 school year will kick off with band camp beginning August 3rd. For those interested in being involved with band, simply email or call Mrs. Oates for further information on when your section will be rehearsing during camp. The flag corp is expanding also and looking for some new members. Enrollment in band is not required to be in the color guard. We are looking for enthusiasm and willingness to learn as our selection criteria. The color guard will be learning both flag routines and dance numbers.
There will be a Music Booster meeting before school begins to address the changes in the music program and answer any questions parents and students might have. Everyone is welcome to attend! A tentative date for this meeting is set for Tuesday, August 11th at 7:00 pm in the band room. There is a lot of excitement and planning going on, so come be a part of it!
