Adrian Project Prom is setting the record straight

It is common to have confusion when people are talking about Prom and Project Prom. So for the record, while these two events complement each other, they are very different in the way of leadership, funding, and specific goals. Locally, it is the Junior Class and their sponsors at the Adrian R-3 School that raise funds and plan the junior/senior prom, which usually consists of a formal dinner and dance. This year, students will travel in a chartered bus to Lee Andrews Hall & Garden in Blue Springs, Mo. on Saturday, May 1st. Now Project Prom on the other hand is the after prom party generously funded by the community and local businesses, planned and organized by a group of volunteers with the purpose of providing a drug and alcohol free alternative to what is “traditionally” and unfortunately, a night of underage drinking and illegal drug use after the prom. This will be the 4th consecutive year for this event to be held at the Harrisonville Community Center and about 10 years that this effort has been in place in our community. It’s a night of fun (or morning rather) from about midnight to 5am!
And as further clarification, a student is welcome to the after prom party even if they do not plan to attend the prom, as long as they are in good standing with their attendance, grades and behavior. If this is the case, those students will need to meet outside of the commons area (south side of high school) at 11pm that Saturday night and have already turned in, or bring with them, a signed permission slip. Only students who register early will be guaranteed a t-shirt.
This year’s theme is “At The Carnival”. Most all of the games and activities will be centered around this theme, as was our 3rd annual t-shirt design contest that was kicked off in early March. We had a total of eight entries and awarded prizes to the top three. These student’s art was judged on theme alignment, clarity, and originality. Third place went to Sophomore, Mistty Collins and second place to Junior, Danielle Baker. Our first place winner was awarded $75 and now has the distinguished honor of having her design printed on 100 plus t-shirts! This young sophomore artist submitted a very colorful, multi-layered design that stood out among the rest. Congratulations to Ali Feris, first place winner of the 2010 Project Prom T-shirt Design Contest!
