Adrian 6th Grade Quiz Bowl Team claims first

Blackhawk Pride was apparent as the Adrian 6th Grade Quiz Bowl Team competed in the 2011 Conference Quiz Bowl hosted by the Osceola Indians on Saturday, April 2, 2011. After watching the 10:30 match, Adrian’s team was ready to compete. By the fifth round, Adrian needed a win in order to receive first place. The Blackhawks were very excited and feeling confident. They came out strong from the Communication Arts round with a 9-5 victory. Math ended with a score of 8-5. However, the Science round went to the opposition with a score of 8 to 16. At this point, the score was Adrian 26, Osceola 26. Tension was thick; buzzers were buzzing, and brains were engaged. The Adrian team knew what needed to happen. Every second counted; emotions were high. Finally, the Social Studies round ended; Adrian had won by 3 points. Final score was Adrian 37, Osceola 34.

The Adrian 6th Grade Quiz Bowl Team brought home a first place plaque to add to the previous 9. From the first year of 1987 until the present, Adrian has been well represented. Not only have the teams brought home 10 total first place plaques; they have also received 7 second and 3 third place plaques. And this is all due to Mr. Wallace Henrickson, Adrian’s former elementary school principal, and his efforts to begin this terrific conference event.

Congratulations to the Adrian 6th Grade Blackhawk Quiz Bowl Team for their hard work ethic, teamwork, sportsmanship and integrity. They are to be commended for representing their school with pride.

The 2011 6th Grade Quiz Bowl team members are: Cassandra Schoor, Peyton Reynolds, Tanner Pitts, Lauren Shipley, and Jacob Weeks, Captain.
