Undercover agents are sold heroin for cash



On October 22, 2014 Bates County Narcotics Unit and CNET Drug Task Force conducted an undercover operation at Taco Bell in Butler, MO. The Suspect met with undercover agents and agreed to sell them Heroin. During the operation the suspect provided a small bag of Heroin in exchange for cash. Once the transaction took place Bates County Deputies and Narcotics Officers converged on the scene to take the suspect in custody. In the suspect’s vehicle there were four people taken into custody.

Special honor bestowed


One of the Adrian Lions Club longtime members was bestowed a special honor on Monday, October 27, 2014. In recognition of the Adrian Lions Club’s donations to the Saving Sight program, Adrian Lions Member Lila Gunn was named to the Haywood Snipes Society, which is the most prestigious honor that Saving Sight can bestow upon a Lion or Lions Club. Only one other member of the Adrian Lions Club has received this distinguished honor since the organization’s inception - Lila’s husband, the late Bob Gunn (December 1999).

Adrian Optimist Students of the Month


The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”. This month's chosen students are: Holly Tate, Ballard; Trevor Ewbank, Miami; and Quincy Keating, Adrian.

Blackhawks season continues with playoff victory over Bobcats

The Adrian Blackhawks hosted the first round of the 2014 Class 1 football playoffs at the George Bruto Athletic Complex Friday night. For the second time in as many weeks, Adrian had to overcome a multiple touchdown deficit at halftime to secure the 26-18 victory. This game was all too important as the loser of the contest would see their season end.

Lady Blackhawks end season with 2nd place finish in Districts


The Adrian Lady Blackhawks were seeded 2nd in the Class 2 District 13 Volleyball Tournament held at Holden last week. Monday, October 20 was the the first round and Adrian went up against the Butler Lady Bears. They came away with a 25-13, 25-16 victory. On Tuesday night the Lady Blackhawks faced the Holden Lady Eagles. It was a much tougher match as it went 3 games. Adrian lost the first game 18-25, but came back and won 25-21 in the second and held on for a 26-24 win in the third. The win put them into the championship game with Cole Camp on Wednesday night.
