Archie officer fires at out of control driver
In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 30, an Archie Police officer began to make a routine traffic stop. The incident turned out to be not so ordinary.
According to Archie Police Chief Shawn Thacker, it was approximately 2:45 a.m. when the unnamed officer tried to pull over a white pickup truck. The truck’s driver put the vehicle in reverse and rammed the officer’s patrol car, then took off.
The officer followed the truck and when he drew closer, the truck’s driver appeared to pull over once again. As the officer approached, the truck’s driver put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to ram the patrol car again before taking off in the truck once more.
The officer pursued the truck west on Route AA to the railroad tracks, where a train blocked the roadway. The truck driver then drove down along side the tracks and turned around when he realized he couldn’t get any farther. When he got back to the roadway, he aimed the truck at the officer who had gotten out of the patrol car and was waiting. When the truck neared him, the officer fired several shots at the truck. The truck and driver sped east. The officer lost sight of the truck as it headed east on Route E.
Archie Police requested that the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s division of Drug and Crime Control Unit take over the case. The suspect truck was reported stolen from Johnson County, Kansas. The case already involves two states and may now include several law enforcement jurisdictions in the investigation.
