Voters in 24 states headed to the polls on Super Tuesday, February 5. Bates County voters chose their favorite primary candidate, with 3,829 of 10,887 actual voters voting. Cass County voters in Archie voted for primary candidates, as well as for a Special Election question regarding the City’s authorization to sell its water impoundment and treatment facilities to an entity formed by PWSD#5 and the City of Archie. In Cass County, 21,123 of 65,551 actual voters voted.

Republican candidate John McCain and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton were the unofficial presidential primary winners in Bates County on Tuesday. Republican primary candidates must have a majority of delegates (1,191 out of 2,380) to be voted their party’s nominee at the Republican National Convention in September 2008. Democratic primary candidates must have a majority of delegates (2,025 out of 4,049) to win their party’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August 2008. The number of delegates who vote for a specific candidate at the conventions is partially determined by the outcome of presidential primary votes cast in each state.
