The Adrian Blackhawks wrestling team opened their 2013-2014 season on December 3, facing off against the Knob Noster Panthers and Chillicothe Hornets, at Knob Noster High School. The Blackhawks walked away even on the night, falling to Chillicothe 45-31, while defeating Knobknoster 54-30.

Frances May Williams, age 90 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler. She was born February 16, 1923 to Edgar Thurston and Mable Martha Murphy Jennings in Spruce, Missouri.

Robert Carl “Bob” Hagberg, age 61 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas. He was born September 30, 1952 to Emil Carl and Anna Roggensack Hagberg in Rockford, Illinois.

W. K. and Earlene Jenkins, rural Adrian, observed their 69th wedding anniversary Tuesday, December 10, 2013. They were married in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and have lived on the same farm since 1948.
Mother Nature brought warmer wintertime temperatures for this year’s Christmas parade and Hot Chocolate Night. The Christmas parade, sponsored by the Adrian Chamber of Commerce, was a huge success with many entries making their way down Main Street. After the parade, Santa made is way to Frontier Village for the longtime tradition of Hot Chocolate Night, hosted by the Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association. Kids shared their Christmas wishes with Santa and received a full-size candy bar and an apple from the Adrian Lions Club.
Sami Costigan, an 8th grader at Adrian Middle School, has been reaching out to the community to help her provide food to people in need. Sami set a goal to collect 2,013 nonperishable items by the end of the year for the Bates County Food Pantry. More than halfway to her goal, Sami gave 1,514 items to the Pantry, which should feed 930 families.
Christian Graham is headed to Tampa, FL on January 11, 2014. He will be playing football at the Buccaneer’s stadium. ESPN will stream live and record the game.
It all started when Graham attended the Blue Gray Regionals on April 3. Graham was one of 6,750 high school players in the country to participate. Only those selected to compete at Nationals would go to Canton, OH, home of the National Football League Hall of Fame. Graham represented Adrian at the nationals competition. From nationals, 90 players were selected to play at Buccaneer’s stadium.
The Adrian Blackhawks varsity basketball opened the 2013-2014 season Monday, November 25 as they hosted the Sherwood Marksmen. In the girls game, the Lady Blackhawks easily defeated the Lady Marksmen 47-17. The boys were defeated 58-44.

Lois Marilyn Croson Cook, quite often called Mimi, age 69 of Adrian, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her home in Adrian Manor where she had lived for the past eight years. She was born on a Thursday evening, October 19, 1944 to George Allan and Lois Geraldine Noland Croson. She was the oldest of three children.
