The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian Tuesday, January 8, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Adrian Optimist Building. All blood donations are greatly needed following the big holiday season and winter weather. Make plans now and be ready to give a donation of life-saving blood on Tuesday, January 8. What a way to start off the new year. You will feel good about making a donation and someone in need will be grateful.
The Senior Rockettes, a dance group from Harrisonville, danced to Christmas music for the residents at Adrian Manor. After their performance, the dancers mingled with the smiling residents. The junior high Lady Blackhawks took first place in the WEMO Conference Tournament last Saturday as they defeated the Drexel Lady Bobcats 47-18. The Adrian Blackhawks traveled to El Dorado Springs Monday night, December 17 for non-conference action. The Adrian Lady Blackhawks were defeated 26-59. In the boys game, Adrian came out on top 59 to 45. Coach Basore said, “The boys did a great job in the 2nd half of getting to the rim and getting to the line.”

The Adrian Blackhawk wrestlers opened their season on12-01-2012 at the Pleasent Hill Tournament. The team took 6th overall with five individual placers.
The Blackhawks then hosted their first home dual on December 4 against the Holden Eagles and Sherwood Marksmen. The Blackhawks were victorious over both teams. Adrian defeated the Eagles 48-32 and Sherwood 55-27.

The Adrian Blackhawks hosted the Liberal Bulldogs on Monday, December 3. In the girls game the Lady Blackhawks were defeated 27 to 35. In the boys game Liberal defeated Adrian 60 to 37.
Friday night, December 7 the Blackhawks traveled to Butler to take on the Bears in non-conference action. The Lady Blackhawks came away with a victory as they defeated the Lady Bears 39 to 26. Coach Basore said, “It was a good win on the road. We kept our composure the entire game.”
ELEMENTARY STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING CITIZENSHIP
This week, November Blackhawk Awards were presented to students in kindergarten through fifth grades for showing outstanding citizenship. Students demonstrate citizenship through being law abiding and involved in service to school, community and country.
During the month of December, students will be working on thoughtfulness and showing consideration for the needs of others.
The Archie High School Boys Basketball Team gathered on Saturday, December 8th, for “Project Warmth” to provide firewood for families who may otherwise be unable to heat their homes this winter. Donations will also be accepted for wood, with the proceeds going to local families fighting cancer.
Thirty-five people, including players and parents, met at Jim and Mary Shipley’s and worked for five hours to cut, split and load wood. Parents donated food and equipment for this event.
Cody W. Knuth graduated from Kansas State University, December 7, 2012, with a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering and December 8th with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering. He also received his “Order of the Ring”, an induction into the Engineering Society, from the College of Engineering over the weekend ceremonies. Cody will be employed with an engineering firm in Leawood, KS. Cody graduated from AHS in 2007 and is the son of David and Sharon Knuth and grandson of Melvin and Macel Jones, all of Adrian, MO.
Linda Mae Carlson was born on January 13, 1948 to Charles and Elaine Huvden. She departed this life at her home on November 26, 2012 at the age of 64.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a bright spot in all of our lives and had a smile that warmed your heart. A memorial service was held at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Butler on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Cremation.
Mary Ann Wisdom, age 57 of Butler, Missouri, died Friday, November 30, 2012 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born August 31, 1955 to Louis Clarence and Gladys JoAnn Roberts Eads in Kansas City, Kansas.

Daniece Renay Miller, age 47 of Amoret, Missouri died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born September 1, 1965 to William Harold and Verna Marie Stephens Corbin in Butler, Missouri.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri with Brother Kevin Black officiating. Burial was in Scott Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Daniel H. Stadler, age 71, of rural Deepwater, Missouri passed away Sunday morning, December 2, 2012 at the University of Missouri Hospitals in Columbia, Missouri. Daniel was born in Clinton, Missouri on April 4, 1941, the son of Ray C. and Opal M. Beaman Stadler.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri with Rev. Dale Snyder officiating. Interment in Finey Cemetery.
These six Adrian Blackhawks football players received post season honors. Three of the players were named to the Football Coaches Association All State team and five were named to Class 1 All District Football. All State players were Christian Graham, 3rd team offensive tackle, Austin Corley, 3rd team defensive back and Brendin White, 2nd team kicker. The Adrian Lady Blackhawks opened their 2012-2013 basketball season in the WEMO Conference Tournament held at Archie on Tuesday, November 27. In the first round of play Adrian, seeded 6th, took on the Midway Lady Vikings, seeded 3rd. In a tight game, start to finish, Adrian fell by two, 29 to 31. Coach Basore stated, “We got tight down the stretch.”
With the loss, the Lady Blackhawks went up against the Appleton City Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday. Adrian came out on top 49 to 21. Coach Basore commented, “The girls did a great job defensively.”
The Adrian Blackhawks boys basketball team opened their season with the WEMO Tournament held in Archie. They played Midway on Monday night. Adrian was seeded 5th and Midway 4th. The Blackhawks defeated the Vikings 45 to 36. Coach Basore commented on the game, “The boys played hard and worked for good shots.”
The win put the Blackhawks against the number one seed Drexel Bobcats on Thursday, November 29. It was not a good night for Adrian as they fell to Drexel 29 to 68.

The December 12 dedication in Joplin of the new Interstate 49 between Kansas City and Pineville will recognize the economic impact and safety benefits the interstate highway is expected to bring to Missouri, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The ceremony, in the gym at Joplin East Middle School, begins at 12 noon Wednesday, Dec. 12. The middle school is located at 7501 E. 26th Street in the Crossroads Industrial Park.

Around 9:50pm Thursday night, November 29, Cass County deputies were called to the 27000 block of SE Outer Rd. south of Harrisonville in reference of a shooting. Upon their arrival deputies located one victim, now identified as 60 year old Eldon Eugene Campbell, Jr. of Harrisonville. Mr. Campbell was transported to Cass Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead as a result of an apparent gunshot wound.
