Missouri Governor Jay Nixon today declared a State of Emergency in Missouri because of the impact that the prolonged severe heat and drought are having on both agriculture and public health. Executive Order 12-07, signed by the Governor on July 23, 2012, activates the State Emergency Operations Plan, which authorizes state agencies to assist local jurisdictions with their emergency response.

The 2012 South 71 Phantoms finished up the season on Saturday, July 21 with an 8-3 defeat in the USSSA 12UA World Series at Fountain Bluffs Sports Complex in Liberty, MO at the hands to the eventual champion Bolivar Liberators. The season concluded with the Phantoms as the 5th ranked team in the State of Missouri in the respective class.

Don Wilson Harness, age 79 of Raytown, Missouri died Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri after an eight year battle with Parkinson’s Disease and severe dementia. He was born July 26, 1932 to Ralph and Phrone Callahan Harness in the White Oak Community near Urich, Missouri.
Elizabeth Katherine Koch Colson, age 38 of Montrose, Missouri died Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Urich, Missouri. She was born May 19, 1974 to David Koch and Kathy Patrick in Butler, Missouri.

Georgia M. Wood, 60, daughter of William Henry and Dixie Mae (Chitty) Underwood, was born July 30, 1951 in Butler, Missouri. She departed this life surrounded by her family on July 13, 2012 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Margaret Louise Booher, age 80 of Amsterdam, Missouri died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler, Missouri. She was born February 27, 1932 to Merle and Lena Rigby Showalter Glessner in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Adrian Lioins Club sold fireworks again this year and as a thank you a drawing was held for The Big Bang. The drawing was held at 2 p.m. on July 4th. The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Adrian, Tuesday, July 10 from 1 - 6 p.m. at the Optimist Building. Following a large holiday, the need for blood is great due to accidents, etc., over the 4th.
Crescent Hill Lodge #368 held an open meeting Thursday night, June 28, 2012 to install the officers for the new year. They did this by having a homemade ice cream and cake social. More than 60 people attended.

Dolly Robey was the recipient of the Ipad from the Adrian Community Library fund raiser as her name was drawn at the Optimist 4th of July Celebration on June 30. The proceeds of this project will be used to purchase a new computer for the library for patron usage. Story Time activities at the Adrian Community Library are being directed by Melinda Elmer and assisted by Sue Merritt. These young children will be listening to stories and how to check out books for summer reading. Stories for ages 2, 3, and 4 begin at 9:00 and for ages 5, 6, and 7 at 9:45 every Monday morning. This opportunity began in June and will continue through July and August. All children are invited to join the groups.
