Sheriff investigates dump site
A large amount of trash and possible hazardous materials was dumped at the intersection of Cemetery Road (CR1001) and Highway AA on Saturday, June 14 at approximately 8:30 p.m. According to Sgt. Phillips of the Bates County Sheriff’s Department, eight - five gallon buckets of paint, four of which were full, used paint brushes, a toilet, old electrical fixtures and assorted papers were dropped at the aforementioned location.
“Besides being an eyesore, there are harmful chemicals in the paint,” Phillips stated.

William Clifford Cushard 1913-2008
William Clifford Cushard, 94, Adrian, MO, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 12, 2:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with Rev. Paul Burhart officiating. Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery. Jeremy Cole Sheppard 1980-2008
Jeremy Cole Sheppard, age 28 of Amsterdam, Missouri, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Donald Lee West 1938-2008
Donald Lee West fell asleep in death on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer. High winds cause damage
High winds beginning Thursday evening, June 5 and continuing through the early morning hours of Friday, June 6 caused significant damage in and around Adrian, particularly to trees and outbuildings.
Pictured: A barn located on the Thompson property, southeast of Adrian, lost its roof to the high winds. Debris was found all over their property and even across the road in the treeline.
Police nab arson suspect
Saturday, June 7, Officer Sellers went to Harrisonville where he worked with the Harrisonville Police Department and arrested the second suspect believed to be connected to a rash of local burglaries and an arson case. The suspect was arrested on $25,000 bond. Stolen items were recovered, including a Global Positioning System unit.
Council approves Manor budget
The Adrian Board of Aldermen met in regular session on Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Adrian’s City Hall.

Rhianna and Chris Thomas of Kansas City, MO announce the birth of their son, Walden Christopher Thomas. Walden was born at North Kansas City Hospital on January 26, 2008. The young man weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.
His maternal grandparents are Lynn Hatfield of Coco, Florida and Larry Loucks of Sedalia, MO. His paternal grandparents are Pat and Trudy Thomas of Drexel, MO.
Great grandparents are Ernest and Margie Arnold, Dorothy and Larry Bradshaw, James Sali, and Cauline Edmondson.

30th annual Steam and Gas Engine Show
The Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association Inc. will be hosting their 30th Annual Steam and Gas Engine Show, beginning on Friday, June 30th, this year. In two weeks, the three day event will bring people from all across the country to Adrian to enjoy a part of rural America through living history. There will be working displays of wheat threshing, blacksmithing, saw mill operations, an old fashioned ice cream shop and much more.

Clarke Duane Lentz and Karin Stenstrom Lentz were married on June 3, 1983 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Grandview, MO. Duane was born and raised in Hardin, MO, son of Gordon Clarke Lentz, Jr. and Bernita Meador Lentz. Karin was born and raised in south Kansas City, MO, daughter of Carl Russell Stenstrom and Betty Skinner Stenstrom, now residing in Adrian, MO. They met while attending the University of Missouri-Columbia and have been best friends ever since.
