It's A Boy!

He’s finally here and we’re grandparents. Bryson Allen Jacobs was born Tuesday morning at 7:15. He weighed 6 lbs. 12 ozs. and was 19 1/4 inches long. And he looks like his dad. I can’t begin to tell you how it felt the first time I saw him. It was a special day for me and Linda. Now I can’t wait to take him hunting!

Casino Night raises $23,000 for Center

Over $23,000 was raised to benefit the Bates County Children’s Center at the Casino Night on Saturday, May 3. Over 500 people attended the event, which was sponsored by the Adrian Optimists, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Children’s Center committee and held in the Adrian Optimist Community Building.

High winds cause damage in Adrian

This tree, in the 200 block of East Sixth Street, was split in two directions Friday afternoon, May 2, 2008, as high winds blew all day. The north branch of the trunk fell on a carport and the south branch fell in the street, blocking traffic. City of Adrian employees responded within a few minutes to clear away the debris.

Lions Club broom sale May 12

As the Adrian Lions Club prepares for its annual broom sale, Pete Hill, Lions club member for over fifty years, reflected on the event.

“In 1950, the broom sale was our only fund raiser,” Hill said. “We used to bring in a truck full of brooms and park on Main Street on a Saturday. People used to come to town on Saturday to buy things, and we would sell to them from the truck.”

Three Blackhawks qualify at district track meet

On Saturday, May 3rd, the Blackhawks boys track team traveled to Cass Midway to participate in the District track meet. The top four places move on to sectionals next Saturday. The boys placed ninth out of 15 teams with 35 1/2 points. Russell Hahs, Wyatt Jackson and Matthew Dickerson will be advancing to sectionals. Coach Cochran said, “We did as well as I could expect today. We are still injured in a few areas. I think our younger guys got discouraged, but they have to remember they are running against seniors. Give them a couple of years, and it will be their turn.

WEMO Conference Track

The Adrian Blackhawks boys track team participated in the WEMO Conference track meet Tuesday, April 29 at Cass Midway. The boys took fourth place with a total of 78 1/2 points. Coach Cochran commented, “We had 11 personal bests today which I am happy with. We had three people injured who could not run and another who was injured while running. We gave up about 25 points due to injuries. We ran well considering. We are a young team and I look for better things next year. I was really proud of the kids today.”

The Lady Blackhawks took 2nd with 98 points.

Blackhawks defeat Osceola

Thursday, May 1 the Adrian Blackhawks baseball team hosted the Hume Hornets. It was a tough night for the Blackhawks as they fell 3-0. Andrew Underwood was the losing pitcher. He went 7 innings, striking out 9. Coach Dingman commented, “We could not get the bat on the ball.”

Softball takes two

On Thursday, May 1, Adrian softball traveled to Jasper and defeated the Lady Eagles 6 to 3. Jennifer Underwood was the winning pitcher. She went 7 innings, striking out 7. Coach Hubbard commented, “We did a better job on defense with only 2 errors. Good outing for us all around.

The JV won their contest 8-2. Jessica Sweeten had a home run in the JV contest. Makenzie Adams, Cara Stark and Megan Lewis each pitched one inning.

40th Wedding Anniversary -- Morrow

The children of Lonnie and Janie Morrow would like to honor their parents on their 40th wedding anniversary with a card shower. Janie McIntire and Lonnie Morrow were married in Adrian on May 11, 1968. Well-wishers may send cards to Rt 2 Box 378, Butler, Missouri 64730.

New Arrival -- Rabourn

Josh Rabourn and Amanda Myers are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Bailee Nicole Rabourn, born on April 8, 2008, weighing 9 lbs. 12 oz. The paternal grandparents are Thomas Rabourn and Tonia Rabourn. Paternal great-grandparents are Jack and Beverly Rabourn and Carol Sterns. Maternal grandparents are Kendall and Melissa Myers. Maternal great-grandparents are Rozella Caldwell and Wayne Sullins.

A service for Kenneth Poston will be held Friday, May 9, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Contributions to the American Cancer Society.
