TSA Car Show a Success
The Adrian Technology Student Association held its First Annual Car and Bike Show on Saturday, April 26 at the Adrian R-3 Athletic Complex. Winners in the following categories were awarded plaques: Classic Class - Jeanette Beard, 1964 Rambler; Muscle Class - Chuck Roberts, 1969 TransAm; Street Rod - Chuck Gray, 1923 T-Bucket; Custom Class - Butch Corley, S-10; Late Model - Francille Stanfill, 1990 Cougar; Pre-war - Carl Stanfill, 1927 Chevy; Truck - Tyler Ricketts, 1978 Jeep; Ugly Car - Rick Lacy, 1980 Jeep; People’s Choice - Chuck Roberts, 1969 TransAm; Best In Show - Chuck Gray.
Track teams compete at Prarie View
The Adrian Blackhawks track team participated in the Prairie View Invitational Thursday, April 24 and the Windsor Invitational Friday, April 25.
At Prairie View, once again the weather was a factor. Coach Cochran commented, “This was not a good meet for us. The weather wasn’t good and we have had a couple of injuries. I’m hoping we heal up by conference, or at least districts. Getting hurt at this time of year is not good. All we can do is regroup and try to improve next meet.”

Blackhawks fall to Sherwood
The Adrian Blackhawks hosted the Sherwood Marksmen Tuesday, April 22. They struggled with their hitting as they lost 10-0. Andrew Underwood pitched 4 2/3 innings, recording 6 strike outs. Tyler Tolle pitched 1/3 inning, striking out 1.

Boil advisory lifted
According to the City of Adrian, the boil advisory was lifted Wednesday morning, April 23.
Car - Bike show rescheduled
The first annual Adrian R-3 Technology Student Association (TSA) Car - Bike Show has been rescheduled for this Saturday, April 26 at the Adrian Athletic Complex. Vehicles may be registered from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Complex. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Vehicles will cruise Adrian’s Main Street from 6 - 6:30 p.m.
Customers line up at the pumps
With gas prices in other cities like Archie and Butler at $3.22 per gallon for unleaded, cars lined up at the pumps at Rudy’s on Wednesday, April 16 for several hours to take advantage of the $3.07 per gallon price. Thursday morning, the price of Rudy’s gas went up to $3.23. Rudy’s last day of operation was Wednesday, April 23, as Casey’s General Store, Inc. bought the business.
Water plant improvements
Mike Lally and Lisa O’Dell of Olsson Associates (Engineers), David Ross of Ross Construction Company and Mayor Ray Cusumano met April 16, 2008 to discuss the Adrian Water Treatment Plant (WTP) improvements. Construction on the project began February 25, 2008, with final completion date scheduled for April 1, 2009.

Lady Blackhawks track results
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks had a long week, participating in three meets in three days. On Tuesday, April 15, they traveled to Archie for the Archie Invitational. The girls placed 7th with 33 points. Coach Cochran said, “The girls had a long week but did well, finishing 2nd at Sherwood.”

Blackhawks fall to Lakeland
The Adrian Blackhawks baseball team traveled to Lakeland Monday night, April 21. Lakeland defeated the Blackhawks 7-5. Luke Hough pitched 4 innings, striking out 2. Ethan Aurand pitched 2 innings and struck out 1. Adrian had a total of 6 walks and 5 stolen bases.

Blackhawks take sixth
The Adrian boys high school track team had a busy week last week, taking part in three different meets. On Tuesday, April 15 they participated in the Archie Invitational. Adrian finished in 6th place with 53 points.

Joe and Dixie Fink of Drexel, Missouri are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Fink, to Tyson Basore, the son of Denny and Linda Basore of Appleton City, Missouri. An outside ceremony is planned for June 7, 2008 at the bride’s parents home. Amy is currently employed at the Butler School District and Tyson is employed at the Adrian School District. Carl Russell Stenstrom, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with Pastor Fred Schmidt officiating. New council members sworn in at meeting
The Adrian Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting on Monday, April 14, 2008 in the City Hall of Adrian, Missouri. Newly elected Aldermen Dennis Kooker and Larry Ritter and Mayor Ray Cusumano were sworn in after old business was discussed by current council members. The council accepted a bid for rent of the City pasture, but did not discuss applicants for the City Administrator position.
Boil Advisory to last through April 23
The City of Adrian and PWSD#5 west of US 71 Highway will be under a boil advisory from Monday, April 14, 2008 to Wednesday, April 23, 2008 due to the flushing of fire hydrants and water mains within the City of Adrian. Casino Night to benefit Children's Center
The Adrian Optimist Club is hosting a Casino Night to benefit the proposed Bates County Children’s Center on Saturday, May 3 at the Optimist Community Building in Adrian. The event will begin at 7 p.m. for social time; gaming begins at 7:30 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. Live mouse races and mouse roulette will be held throughout the night. The event will have twenty four blackjack tables, two craps tables, two roulette tables and three Texas Hold ‘Em tables.
Lady Blackhawks fall to Holden
The Adrian Lady Blackahwks softball team hosted the Holden Lady Eagles Monday, April 14. The Lady Blackhawks struggled with their bats and fell to Holden 9 to 1. Jennifer Underwood was the losing pitcher. She pitched 7 innings, collecting 9 strike outs.
Becca Lawrence was 1 for 3; Jennifer Underwood 1 for 3; Megan Lewis 1 for 3; Kaitlin Hendrick 1 for 3, driving in the only run.
The JV girls won their contest 9-0 against Holden. Makenzi Adams pitched 2 innings and Megan Lewis pitched 1.

Ivan Eugene “Gene” Yarnell, age 85 of Springdale, Arkansas, formerly of the Ballard, Missouri community, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the Maples at Har-Ber Meadows Nursing Home in Springdale. Paul I. Wells 1925-2008
Paul I. Wells, 83 of Tucson died at Casa de la Hospice on March 29, 2008, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 12th at Northwest Brethren Community Church (505 West Hardy Road, Tucson AZ 520-742-5122) with Pastor Dan Acker, officiating. Following the service family and friends will join together in celebration of Paul’s life at the church for refreshments. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name for: Arizona Chapter American Parkinson Disease Association, 2033 E. Speedway Blvd.

Sheriff's department arrests two
On April 3, 2008 at approximately 2:45 a.m., K9 handler Deputy Bohannon stopped a Dodge Caravan with expired tags. Forty year old Stephanie A. Martin of Carthage, Missouri was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant from California for manufacturing methamphetamines.
A search of the vehicle revealed several chemicals used in the manufacturing of methamphetamines as well as digital scales and other drug paraphernalia.
Martin and 43-year-old Stephen Grimmett of Webb City were both arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine precursors with the intent to manufacture.
Blackhawks defeat Ballard
The Adrian Blackhawks baseball team hosted the Ballard Bulldogs Monday night, April 7. Adrian defeated Ballard 10 to 0. The winning pitcher was Andrew Underwood. He pitched 4 innings, striking out 9. Tyler Tolle pitched 1 inning. He struck out 3.

Lady Blackhawks host tournament
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks hosted a softball tournament Saturday, April 5. The tournament was played as a Round Robin.
In the first round of play Adrian defeated the Ballard Lady Bulldogs 15-0. Jennifer Underwood pitched 3 innings, walking 2 and striking out 9. McKenzie Adams came in and pitched 1 inning, walking 1 and striking out 3. The Lady Blackhawks had 5 stolen bases and 9 hits. Jennifer Underwood went 2/3 with 1 home run and 1 double and had 3 RBIs.
Blackhawks take first at meet
The Adrian Blackhawks boys track meet participated in the Cass Midway Invitational Tuesday, April 1. Despite the cold and wind, Adrian managed to take first with 101 points. There were 13 teams participating.

Class of 1978
The Adrian High School class of 1978 will celebrate their 30 year reunion on Saturday, May 10 beginning at 4:00 at the First Baptist Church in Adrian. Dinner will be served at 6:00. Sheriff finds meth-making chemicals in Adrian home
On March 20, 2008 the Bates County Sheriff’s Office was called to 217 South Virginia, Lot #4, to assist the Adrian Police Department. Initial reports were that an Adrian officer was exposed to chemicals from a meth lab and that the Adrian Police Department was evacuating the area.
While enroute to the scene, Bates County Sheriff Doug Mullenix gathered information and determined that there had not been any chemicals released in the air, thus, there was no immediate threat of chemical exposure to citizens in the area. Sheriff Mullenix stopped the evacuation.
Archie officer fires at out of control driver
In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 30, an Archie Police officer began to make a routine traffic stop. The incident turned out to be not so ordinary.
According to Archie Police Chief Shawn Thacker, it was approximately 2:45 a.m. when the unnamed officer tried to pull over a white pickup truck. The truck’s driver put the vehicle in reverse and rammed the officer’s patrol car, then took off.
Archie boil order lifted
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has lifted the boil water order for the City of Archie, Public Water System ID #MO1010024, located in Cass County, Missouri. Department officials lifted the boil order on March 27, 2008 after test results from water samples collected on March 25 and March 26 showed that water was bacteriological safe to drink and within normal operational parameters.
2007 Sheriff's report shows drug-related crime increase
According to the Bates County Sheriff’s 2007 year end report, the total amount of crimes investigated by the Bates County Sheriff’s Office increased from 583 crimes in 2006 to 785 crimes in 2007.
Blackhawks struggle in Archie tournament
Blackhawks participate in Archie Invitational
The Adrian Blackhawks boys and girls track teams traveled to Archie Tuesday, March 25 for the Archie Invitational Track Meet. There were 17 teams participating. The boys finished in 4th place with 58 points and the girls in 8th with 23 points.

Blackhawks open baseball season with win
The Adrian Blackhawks opened the 2008 baseball season at home against the K. C. Lutheran Knights. Kyle Knuth was the winning pitcher with 3 strike outs and allowing 3 hits. Ethan Aurand came in to save with 8 strike outs and allowing 3 hits. The Blackhawks won the game 10-5. Coach Dingman said, “It was a good first game. We hit okay, but our pitching pulled us through. There were only two errors in the field. It was a good place to start.”

Wanda Lea (Endecott) Smith of Archie, Missouri, was born August 25, 1920, in Miami County, Kansas, the daughter of Roy Benjamin and Edna Pearl (Ballard) Endecott. She departed this life March 31, 2008 at her home. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 1-2 p.m. at the Drexel First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev.
