Police investigate car wash theft
The Adrian Police Department made routine traffic stops this past week as well as investigated cases of loud noise, thefts or attempted thefts and a possible animal control situation. Saturday, December 22, Officer Cole responded to the MoJo Car Wash on First Street, where someone took advantage of the blowing snow to tear out a coin machine from its concrete containment. According to Police Chief Charles Chapman, the thief or thieves got approximately $300. The theft of the machine was accomplished by using a sledge hammer sometime between 2 and 6 a.m.
60th Wedding Anniversary
Lloyd Karl McDonnell of Archie and Rose Marie Erickson of Amsterdam were married December 31, 1947 while students at the Missouri University in Columbia. They returned to the farm and were blessed with three children: Michael McDonnell of Columbus, NE, Mark and Minnie McDonnell of Archie, MO, Karla and Jim Brewster of Butler, MO; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They reside at 16510 E. State Route A, Archie, MO 64725.
Engaged to Wed--Kretzschmar - Nash
Vic and Denise Kretzschmar, formerly of Adrian, are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Erin, to Michael Nash of St. Joseph, MO.
Erin, a graduate of Adrian High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia, currently lives in Kansas City and works in public relations out of her home for Rhea+Kaiser, a marketing communications firm based in Naperville, IL.

Terry Wayne Cox, age 57, of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, December 8, 2007 in Butler. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2007 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with Rev. Winston Wayne Ambrose 1927-2007

Courtwarming 2007
Adrian R-3 2007 Courtwarming was held on Friday, December 14. The Courtwarming King was Bobby McCarl, freshman, son of Robert and Trina McCarl. The Courtwarming Queen was Jennifer Underwood, senior, daughter of Mike and Jacque Underwood. Awards were also given at halftime, and the sophomores won in all four categories: spirit stick, gym decorating, dance off and lunch games.
Santa's Elves
Adrian Mayor Cindy Kendrick, left, Police Chief Charles Chapman, center, and Herschel Cole, Adrian Police officer, are serving as Santa’s elves this Christmas. Cole and Chapman will deliver donated gifts to families in need on Christmas Eve. Kendrick began the toy drive and wrapped the gifts as they arrived at City Hall.
Lady Blackhawks victorious at Courtwarming
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks took their annual Courtwarming game by a landslide last Friday night as they played host to the Sherwood Lady Marksmen.

Blackhawks score Courtwarming victory
Courtwarming for the Adrian Blackhawks couldn’t have been more exciting for the Adrian boys and fans alike. What turned out to be one of the Blackhawks most aggressive and best played games this year, also put a check mark in the win column for the boys as they fought their way to a 55-53 win over the Sherwood Marksmen Friday night.

Blackhawk wrestlers take on Butler
Jr. High girls take third
The Adrian Blackhawks junior high girls basketball team participated in the Jr. High WEMO Conference Tournament last week. In first round action they defeated Drexel 29-19. In the second round the junior Blackhawks were defeated by Archie 30-22. On Saturday, December 15 they played the Rich Hill Tigers. Behind the scoring of Kristy Ray and Lesley Cox Adrian defeated Rich Hill 29-18 for third place.

Gladys L. Gibbons, 1912-2007
Gladys L. Gibbons, 95, Hermitage, MO, formerly of Archie, MO, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian, MO.
Nellie May Parrott 1911-2007
Nellie May Parrott, age 96, Knob Noster, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Sweet Springs Villa, Sweet Springs, Missouri. Police recover two million dollars worth of drugs
Adrian Police officers and Bates County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a huge amount of marijuana during a drug bust that took place during the early morning hours of Saturday, December 8.
Around 1 a.m., an eastbound tractor-trailer unit was stopped at Highway 18/Main Street and Cemetery Road after being observed committing a traffic violation near Highways 18 and FF. When questioned, the Hispanic male driver’s reason for being in the area was questioned. Two additional vehicles, a box truck and a car, were also stopped in connection with the truck stop.

Council begins annexation process
During their regular meeting on December 10, 2007, the Adrian Board of Aldermen briefly discussed Adrian R-III’s request to have the school athletic complex annexed into city limits. The school provided the requested documentation showing that they will not require water or sewer service from the city. The council voted to direct the city attorney to draft an ordinance for the annexation. The measure passed 3-1 with Hank Stark voting against it.
Candidate filing begins next week
Candidate filing for the April 8, 2008 local school boards, city councils and the Bates County Hospital Board election begins next week. The filing period runs from Tuesday, December 18, 2007 to Tuesday, January 22, 2008.
Three seats are open for each of the School Boards, and each of those are for three year terms. To file, candidates should go to their school district’s Superintendent’s Office.
Courtwarming 2007
Adrian R-3 Courtwarming 2007 will be held Friday, December 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Adrian Blackhawks will take on the Sherwood Marksmen. The Booster Club will be serving refreshments beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the band room.

The Adrian Blackhawks found themselves in a close game last Tuesday night against Butler as they slid by with a victory over the Bears. Adrian will continue their season this Friday night as they host the Sherwood Marksmen for annual Courtwarming night. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity girls playing first.

Lady Blackhawks post two wins
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks added two more victories to their record last week as they defeated the Butler Bears last Tuesday and the Bartsow Knights last Friday night. Adrian will continue their action this Friday night, December 14, as they host the Sherwood Marksmen for their annual Courtwarming night. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Robert Franklin “Bob” Kershner departed this earthly life December 3, 2007. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with Pastor Dale Newkirk officiating. Contributions, Scott Cemetery or American Cancer Society. Burial was in Scott Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri.

Coach receives top honor
The Fall athletic reception for Adrian R-3 was held last Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Adrian Superintendent Doug Hedrick opened the reception by welcoming everyone. He thanked all those responsible for the hard work on the wonderful new athletic complex. He then presented head football coach George Bruto with a watch from the Adrian School Board for his induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Mitten Tree
Tis the season for giving… and also the time for cold weather. Many children come to school not equipped with the appropriate clothing for this type of weather. They wear thin long sleeved shirts or t-shirts and they don’t have gloves or hats to keep warm. A lot of children also walk to school.
Martial arts academy opens on Main Street
“This is a family-oriented, sports school with basic self-defense training. We want this to be fun and affordable for the whole family,” said David Kreitler, owner of Adrian’s newest business on Main Street.
The American Academy of Martial Arts is located at 40 East Main, about mid-block on the north side, between the railroad tracks and Virginia Street. It is easy to spot, just look for the trophies in the front windows.
Blackhawks finish fourth
The Adrian Blackhawks brought home a fourth place finish last week after the annual WEMO Conference tournament held at Drexel. Adrian continued their season Tuesday night at home against Butler and will travel to Barstow on Friday night to take on the Knights.

Lady Blackhawks take second
The Lady Blackhawks had a successful week last week in the WEMO Tournament as they brought home the second place finish. Adrian continued their season Monday night hosting the Butler Lady Bears and will travel to Barstow on Friday to take on the Lady Knights. Game time Friday is set for 5:30 p.m.

Wedding Anniversary--Jenkins
W.K. and Earlene Jenkins were married on December 10, 1944 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They will celebrate their sixty-third anniversary this December.
