Howitzer finally arrives
In November 2006, an eight inch concrete pad was poured near the VFW shelter house at the Adrian City Park in preparation for the arrival of a M109AZ 155 self-propelled Howitzer. On Tuesday, November 27 of this year, the cannon finally arrived.
Adrian VFW Post #1935 arranged to have the cannon moved from a museum in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to the City Park as the beginning of a Veteran’s Memorial.
Sheriff discovers meth lab
On November 25, 2007 at approximately 12:35 a.m., the Butler Police Department along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies served a search warrant at 400 E Fort Scott in Butler, Missouri. The search warrant was obtained after a three month investigation by the Butler Police Department for narcotics violations.
Butler Abstract & Title is Chamber business
The Adrian Chamber of Commerce featured business for November is the Butler Abstract and Title Company, located at 2 North Delaware on the southwest corner of the Butler Square. The independent office is one of five other such Missouri offices owned by the same abstract company. The other offices are in Osceola, El Dorado Springs, Stockton and Greenfield.
The office provides customers with real estate closings, title insurance, escrow services and the Ten-Thirty-One Exchange, where a customer can sell property and use the sale money to immediately buy new property without any tax penalty.
Blackhawks win over Ballard, Drexel
The Adrian Blackhawks opened their season with a bang as they hosted the Ballard Bulldogs last Thursday night. Adrian came out strong in the first half as they were able to put in 45 points and held the Bulldogs to a low 11. The Blackhawks showed some mercy in the second half as they posted another 22 points and allowed Ballard just 13. Adrian walked away with a 67-24 victory to open their 2007-2008 season.
Lady Blackhawks start season with a win
The Lady Blackhawks opened their season last Thursday night as they hosted the Ballard Lady Bulldogs.
Adrian came out scoring in the first quarter as they came up on the Lady Bulldogs, 21-3. Keeping up the scoring in the second quarter, Adrian went in to the locker room leading at halftime, 35-11.
The Lady Blackhawks didn’t let down in the second half and kept running the court as they walked away with their first victory of the season over the Lady Bulldogs, 53-14.

Eric Richard Eidson, age 40 of Nixa, Missouri died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at his home in Nixa where he had just moved after residing in Independence, Missouri for nine years. City hires attorney to handle personnel issues
At the end of their November regular meeting, the Adrian Board of Aldermen emerged from a closed session and voted to retain the services of Sandra Schermerhorn and to authorize her to conduct an investigation of personnel issues. The council has not released any information about the subject of the investigation. The most recent city personnel change came in October when Leslie Pope was let go at the end of her probationary period.
45th Anniversary
Larry Case and Linda Leister were united in marriage on November 22, 1962 at the Amsterdam United Methodist Church. Larry and Linda have three children, Andy Case and wife Myrna of Amsterdam, Angela Lewis and husband Roy of Adrian, and Mike Case and wife Kellie of Adrian. The couple have ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Blackhawks defeat Lockwood, fall to Tipton
Starting out their post district play last Wednesday night, Adrian traveled to Lockwood to take on the Tigers. Adrian came out in the first half ready to play ball as they took the first half by storm and were able to post 35 points to Lockwood’s 6.
With being just two games away from the State Championship game, Adrian found themselves host to the Tipton Cardinals in the Sectional match up Monday night.
Adrian was unable to prevail over the Cardinals as their season came to an end after a heartbreaking upset, 43-44.
50th Anniversary--Wainwright
Willis Dale and Beverly (Bradley) Wainwright are celebrating their 50th Wedding anniversary. There will be a reception in their honor, hosted by their children and grandchildren Sunday, Nov. 25, 2:00-4:00 pm. at the Butler Senior Center 611 Mill St. Butler, MO.
Willis and Bev were married Nov. 25, 1957 at the Adrian Baptist Parsonage by the late Rev. Fred Terry. Joyce Durbin Saathoff of Adrian was their bridesmaid and the late Doyle Fanning of Butler was their best man.
Willis retired from AT&T and Bev retired from Butler R-5 Elementary School.

Stephen Hunter Gregg
Stephen Hunter Gregg passed away November 7, 2007 at Saugus, California. He was the brother of Mary, Larry, Martha and Debbie. He was preceded in death by Paul, Dow and Charlotte. A memorial service will be held in Adrian at a later date.

Billy Dean Reed, age 79, of Adrian, MO, was born March 25, 1928, the son of James William and Oma Berniece (Hurst) Reed. He passed from this life on Friday evening, November 9, 2007 at his home in Adrian. Funeral services for Billy Dean Reed were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Schell City Christian Church in Schell City, Missouri with Bro. Grady Davis officiating. Joe Lee Layland 80, of The Colony, Texas, died Monday, November 1, 2007 at his home after a short illness. Intimate commitment gravesite services were held November 3, 2007 at the Furneux Cemetery, Carrollton, Texas with the Rhoton Funeral Home in charge. Burial followed in the cemetery.
75 Years of Adrian Banking
The new Adrian Optimist Community Building was filled Saturday night, November 3, as the Adrian Bank celebrated its Diamond Anniversary. Between 800 and 1,000 customers and friends attended the event titled “Honoring our past, celebrating the present, valuing the future”, which included a meal catered by Butt Head BBQ, caricature drawings by The Fine Tooners, Maxaroo the Kangaroo and a 2008 Dodge Viper displayed by Max Motors, a custom motorcycle displayed by Brad and Missy Brooks and bank prize drawings throughout the night.
Drexel man arrested in thirty-year-old crime
On October 30, 2007, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office took Russell S. Trawick into custody as a fugitive from justice. He escaped from the Florida Department of Corrections on December 25, 1975.
Russell S. Trawick, who was using the stolen identity of John H. Stover, was sentenced to serve 10 years in the Florida Department of Corrections on the January 14, 1975. He was convicted of six counts of check fraud. On December 25, 1975, Russell escaped from the Florida Department of Corrections and remained a fugitive from justice for 32 years.

Blackhawks: Conference and District Champions
The Adrian Blackhawks will advance to the playoffs after shutting out the Appleton City Bulldogs in their last district game on Thursday night. The Black and Gold captured the Western Missouri Conference title and the District Championship with the win over Appleton City. Their overall record is 7 and 2.

Bridget is a 2006 graduate of Johnson County Community College. Mark is a 2005 graduate of Adrian High School and is currently employed with the City of Lee’s Summit. She was a graduate of Adrian High School class of 1931. She leaves a son, Gary of New York City and a brother Jim King of Butler, MO. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society provided cremation.
