CHART Red Ribbon Weekend
Bates County Community Health Awareness Resource Team (CHART) followed up their annual Red Ribbon week with demonstrations at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Butler on Saturday, October 27. Adrian Bank celebration this Saturday
The Adrian Bank will celebrate their 75th Anniversary this Saturday, November 3, 2007, at the new Adrian Optimist Building. This celebration will also coincide with the Bank’s Annual Customer Appreciation, which is usually held in mid-December.
Adrian defeats Archie in second district game
The Adrian Blackhawks took their second game of district by storm as they downed the Archie Whirlwinds last Friday night.
Ending the first quarter, Russell Hahs was able to put the Blackhawks up by six after a two yard run. Coming in the second quarter, Adrian went back and forth with Archie on end zone scoring and Adrian outscored the Whirlwinds by two. The Blackhawks went in to halftime leading, 21-13.
50th Wedding Anniversary -- Smith
Charles and Alberta Smith of Amsterdam, Missouri will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, November 3, 2007. Rev. Arthur Olsen married Charles Smith and the former Alberta Case November 3, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Amsterdam, Missouri. Their family would like to honor them with a card shower. Kevin and Amy Donovan are proud to announce the early arrival of their son Kyle Leland Donovan. Kyle was born October 18, 2007 at 8:37 a.m. He weighed in at 2 lbs. 11 oz.

Darla Hope Christopher-Ficklin entered into eternal rest on October 23, 2007 at her home in Columbia, Missouri. Services will be held on November 10, 2007 at the Adrian Baptist Church. The family requests that memorials be sent on behalf of Darla’s children to their father, Robert Ficklin.
Trick-or-Treat
Sight and Safety Night will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Main Street in Adrian on October 31. Costumed children can trick-or-treat at booths provided by local businesses and organizations. A pumpkin contest will be held.
The residents of Adrian Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center welcome young trick-or-treaters (ages 12 and under) to visit Halloween evening, Wednesday, October 31, between 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. Treats will be available to the children during that time. The facility requests that the designated time be respected.
Senior Fall Olympics
The Senior Fall Olympics at Adrian Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center got underway Saturday morning, October 20 at 10:00 with an opening ceremony. Residents participated in numerous Olympic events, which included Ball Throw, Kick Ball, Wheelchair Obstacle Course, horse shoes and Word Game/Trivia. Despite the gusty winds, the weather did not impede the fun and excitement of the morning for the residents, volunteers, and family members.
Dog Show this weekend
Dogwood Kennels is hosting a Dog Costume Contest in time for Halloween. The Show/Contest will be held at the Adrian City Park this coming Sunday, October 28 and late, on-site registration begins at 1 p.m. Everyone’s pet must be on a leash and handlers must be in control of their dogs at all times.
Blackhawks overpower Bobcats
The Adrian Blackhawks started their district play with a bang as they hosted and shut out the Drexel Bobcats last Friday. Adrian will go in to their second game of districts against Archie this Friday with a 47-0 district victory under their belts. The Blackhawks will host the Archie Whirlwinds and game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

Arteela Alice Woodall 1935-2007
Arteela Alice Woodall passed away on October 14, 2007 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler, MO, at the age of 72. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 17, 2:00 p.m. at the Heuser Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Perkey officiating. Interment in Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill, Missouri. Kenneth E. Anderson 1930-2007
Kenneth E. Anderson, 77, Drexel, MO, passed away October 17, 2007 at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20 at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Drexel, MO. Burial with full military honors was held at the Sharon Cemetery near Drexel following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice which may be left in care of the funeral home.

Council vote leaves police department shorthanded
The Adrian Board of Aldermen voted to not offer a full time position to Leslie Pope at the end of her probation. Police Chief Charles Chapman made the recommendation in a 25-minute closed session during the board’s regular meeting. Mayor Cindy Kendrick declined to give specific reasons for the board’s decision.
Main Street Fair celebrates Vision 2007 completion
In celebration of the completion of the Vision 2007 project, Adrian held a Street Fair on Saturday, October 13 on Main Street. Not deterred by the stormy weather, a crowd came out to enjoy the festivities, which began with a ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches by individuals who played a prominent role in the Vision 2007 project.

Lady Blackhawks play Miami
Blackhawks score big homecoming victory
The Adrian Blackhawks blew their homecoming game out of the water last Friday night as they took on the Osceola Indians. With all the black and gold school spirit, Adrian was pumped and ready to play.
After homecoming events were celebrated, the Adrian Blackhawks hit the field again with the same momentum as the first half. Caranza and Lincoln ran the ball again, both finding the end zone in the third quarter. White went two for two again, nailing both PATs.

Brandon Wayne Kendrick, 32, Adrian, MO, son of Mitchell Kendrick and Pamela Sue (Highfill) Jenkins, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at his home in Adrian, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, MO, officiated by Rev. Paul Burhart, Adrian Christian Church. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Man charged in Adrian Bank robbery
Adrian Police Chief Charles Chapman just received long-awaited information about the two people who, on two separate occasions, robbed the Adrian Bank. As of Tuesday. October 2, 2007, John Earl Hall, 44, of Joplin had been charged in a three-count indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, in Kansas City, Missouri. The indictment alleged that Hall used a firearm to steal $10,795 from the Adrian Bank on August 24, 2006. He was also charged with a felon in possession of a firearm, which was a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.

The WMAT&MA held a Swap Meet at the Frontier Village in Adrian on Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6. Bicycles, tools and other bargains were available for purchase, as well as breakfast and lunch provided by the WMAT&MA Women’s Auxiliary. Adrian R-3 Parent-Teacher Conferences
Adrian Junior/Senior High School parent/teacher conferences will be held Thursday, October 25 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday, October 26 from 8 a.m. through noon. Parents will be able to pick up their student’s grade card at school on Thursday or Friday during the conference times listed above. Lady Blackhawks split week
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks split last week with one loss against Osceola and a win against Drexel.
Starting the week at Osceola on Tuesday night, the Lady Blackhawks had a tough time controlling the Lady Indians on the court. The Lady Blackhawks fell to Osceola in two games, 25-7 and 25-21.
On Thursday night the Lady Blackhawks hit the road again as they traveled to Drexel. Adrian had a successful night as they downed the Lady Cats in two games, 25-7 and 25-17.
Blackhawks win over Vikings
The Adrian Blackhawks posted another win to their record as they defeated the Midway Vikings last Friday night at Midway. Adrian played a close first half with the Vikings but were able to go up by two touchdowns before half. The Blackhawks went in to half time leading 12-0. Coming out in the third quarter, the Blackhawks were ready to score. Tyler Lincoln found the end zone twice for Adrian in the third and Kyle Knuth made contact with Skyler Kariker for a 12 yard touchdown pass.
United in marriage--Lovelace - Monaghan
Sarah Lynn Lovelace, daughter of Steve and Albeth Lovelace of Adrian, MO and David John Monaghan, son of Mark and Kathy Monaghan of Freemont, NE were united in marriage on August 18, 2007 at the Victory Assembly of God Church in Adrian. The couple now make their home in LaVista, NE.

Ella Marie Gillogly of Harrisonville, Mo. went home to be in the presence of the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the age of 92 years and 13 days. Services were held Wednesday, October 3, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Harrisonville, Missouri with the Rev. Charles Sutton and Rev. David Noble officiating. Interment was in the Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice or the CMC Auxiliary. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Blackhawks shut out Rich Hill Tigers
The Adrian Blackhawks earned themselves their second win Friday night as they traveled to Rich Hill to take on the Tigers.
Adrian came out in the first half ready to score as they were able to post 14 points in the first quarter and doubled their score in the second quarter. Defensively, the Blackhawks held the Tigers from finding any score of their own. Adrian went in to the locker room at halftime leading 28-0.
Lady Blackhawks record two victories
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks found themselves two wins last week as they took on the Miami Eagles on Tuesday and Appleton City on Thursday night. Adrian traveled to Osceola on Tuesday and will hit the road again on Thursday to travel to Drexel in a rematch of their loss to the Bobcats in the Archie tournament. Game time Thursday is set for 5:30 p.m.

Makayla Anderson comes home
Marissa Anderson welcomes home her baby sister Makayla Marie Anderson after 145 days in NICU. Makayla was born May 10, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital weighing 22 ozs. and 12 1/2 inches long. Makayla came home September 29, 2007 weighing 9 lbs. 14 ozs. and 20 inches long and is doing well.

Joey, Jacob and Katelyn Frazier would like to introduce their new baby sister Sydney Jean Frazier born August 12, 2007 (on her grandmas birthday) She was 7 lbs. 7 ozs, and 19 3/4 inches. She was born at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Proud parents are Harry Joe & Amy Frazier.
