Senior Night

Twelve senior basketball players, cheerleaders and managers were given special recognition on Saturday night when Adrian hosted Northeast Vernon County in a non-conference contest. The students and parents were introduced and then honored preceeding the boys' game.

Two Rudy's employees arrested for stealing

On February 17, 2007 members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Tanya L. Reynolds of Adrian, Missouri and Roberta H. Gasperment of Drexel, Missouri on Bates County warrants for stealing. The two subjects were arrested at their place of employment, Rudy's convenient store in Adrian, Missouri. These arrests were made as part of an investigation over the last sixty days by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Kreisler Drug sounds off their concerns

Kreisler Drug Store employees were at last week's city council meeting to express concern about loss of business due to the decision made by Ron Fetters, Adrian Manor Administrator, to take Manor resident medicine needs away from the Adrian store and give them to Wilkinson Pharmacy in Nevada, Missouri. Last August Fetters made the decision to move most of the medicine account to Wilkinson. At the time, Kreisler was filling at least 35 of the prescription needs for the 43 or so Manor residents. Council denies raises to Adrian Manor employees

Mr. Fetters, Adrian Manor administrator, moved for the council to approve a 5% raise increase to all the employees of the Adrian Manor Nursing Home. Fetters stated that he had already approved and informed Manor employees of the raises. Fetters was reminded by Lovelace that major expenses need to be brought before the council for approval. Lovelace then moved to approve the 5% raises for the Adrian Manor Employees. There was no second, so the motion died.

Lady Blackhawks split last four games

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks split their last four games, losing two and winning two in last week's play. The Lady Blackhawks hit the road last Thursday as they traveled to Lakeland. Adrian jumped up to a five point lead in the first quarter, but fell behind in the second as they were only able to find the basket twice, posting 4 points and defensively gave up 11. Adrian went in at the half trailing 19-21. Adrian battled through the second half but came up short as they fell to Lakeland 37-51.

Adrian posts two conference wins

Joyce Elaine Colon Bowie 1965-2007

Joyce Elaine Colon Bowie, Belton, MO, passed away Monday, February 19, 2007 at Hospice House of Kansas City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 with funeral at 6:00. Burial of her ashes will be in Pleasantview Cemetery in Oskaloosa, KS at a later date.

James "Frosti" Hodge 1967-2007

James "Frosti" Hodge, age 40 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. A celebration of life was held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with Minister Kristine Ennis officiating.

Jeffrey Daaron Hough 1962-2007

Jeffrey Daaron Hough, 45, Butler, MO, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City, MO. 2007 National FFA Week February 17-24

Adrian FFA Chapter will celebrate National FFA Week Feb. 17-24, 2007. Blue Jackets, Gold Standards is the theme this year and it embodies all the best about FFA members, from the most recognizable symbol of the organization, the blue corduroy jacket, to the best ideals and traditions of national life, gold standards. Nearly half a million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels.

Adrian receives new police officer

The new Adrian officer is Kyle Humphrey, who will work nights. He is from Hume and has worked as an officer for the Jasper, Missouri Police Department and as a reserve officer for the Bates County Sheriff's Office. He began with the Adrian Police Department on Tuesday, February 6.

State Wrestling Championships set for February 15-17 in Columbia

The MSHSAA Wrestling Championships will be held at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia February 15-17, 2007 using a double elimination format with complete wrestlebacks to third place with 16 qualifiers in each weight class. Adrian will be represented by three wrestlers. Senior Tyler Bise, 32-0, will be in the 152 pound class. Senior Justin Hough, 21-10, will be wrestling in the 160 pound weight. Wyatt Jackson, junior, 27-4, will be wrestling in the 215 weight class.

Lady Blackhawks take third in Cass-Midway tournament

Adrian traveled back Midway last Saturday to compete for a third place finish in the Cass-Midway tournament. Adrian went up against the Lady Vikings from Midway. The Lady Blackhawks had a game going for them as they matched the Vikings shot for shot in the first half and were only able to find themselves up by 2 going into halftime. Adrian came out in the second half leading the Lady Vikings 18-16.

Engaged to Wed--Kershner-Burhart

John and Denise Kershner of Adrian and Paul and Dawn Burhart of Adrian would like to announce the engagement of their daughter and son, Kelsi Renee Kershner and Ray Lee Burhart.Ray and Kelsi are both 2002 graduates of Adrian. Kelsi, a 2006 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, is currently teaching at the Adrian school. Ray, earning a bachelor's degree in Biblical Literature at Ozark Christian College, will graduate this May. The couple will be united in marriage on March 10, 2007.

Reva Christine Brooks 1944-2007

Reva Christine Brooks, age 62 of Foster, Missouri died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Graveside services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Woodfin Cemetery in Foster, Missouri with Rev. Pat McGuire officiating. Contributions to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. Services were under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri.

2007 Courtwarming Queen

Ariel Fredrickson, sophomore, was crowned as Adrian's 2007 Courtwarming Queen during halftime of the boy's game against the Appleton City Bulldogs Friday night. Ariel is the daughter of Doug and Dena Fredrickson.

MoDOT discusses closing of Adrian Highway Barn

The on again, off again talks of the proposal to shut down the Adrian area highway department barn, are on again. Representatives from MoDOT were at City Hall on Monday, February 5 to discuss the proposal, which, although not a done deal, looks more likely to occur sometime in the future.
