Santa Claus rolls into town

City Hall holds toy drive

Mayor Cindy Kendrick said there is a box in the lobby at City Hall to be used to collect toys for Adrian children in need this Christmas. Anyone wanting to donate should bring a new, unwrapped toy or game for any age to City Hall during regular business hours. The toy drive will continue until close of business hours on Friday, December 22.

Filing period for April election begins now

The time period to file for the April 3, 2007 elections began Tuesday, December 12 at 8 a.m. and will continue during regular business hours until 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 2007.Locally, the elections will involve school boards, water boards, township boards, Adrian City Council aldermen, the Bates County Hospital Board and the Health Center Board.

Harrison hired as City Administrator

The regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held Monday, December 11, 2006 in the City Hall of Adrian, Missouri. Alderman Mark Lovelace moved to appoint Leonard Harrison as City Administrator at $43,000 per year plus insurance and vacation of two weeks after one year with a 90-day probationary period. Start date will be January 2, 2007. Greenwood seconded. Motion carried 3-0. Melisa Newkirk was promoted to City Clerk as well.

Parents as Teachers

Adrian R-III Parents as Teachers will be hosting a story hour at the Adrian Community Library on December 14 at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. This is a correction from last week's information.

Adrian Project Prom

Please come to the Harrisonville McDonalds December 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. to support Adrian Project Prom. A percentage of all sales will be donated to Project Prom.

Blackhawks hang on to defeat Butler Bears

It's been awhile since the Adrian Blackhawks have defeated the Butler Bears on their home court, but it happened last Tuesday night as Adrian held on to capture the non-conference contest 44-42.Pictured: Kyle Knuth breaks through the Butler defense to lay the ball off the glass in last Tuesday's game against the Butler Bears.

Varsity squads to play for third place

After the early December snowstorm, the WEMO Conference basketball tournament has been rescheduled. A portion of the games were played Saturday night at the original host site in Appleton City. The finals are scheduled for this weekend at Cass-Midway. Adrian girls and boys basketball teams will be in action Saturday night at Cass-Midway. The girls game is slated for 1:30 and the boys game to follow at 3:00.

Shannon-Rahl united in marriage

Carrie Elizabeth Shannon and Matthew John Rahl, both of Winona, Minnesota, were married May 20, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Butler, MO. Pastor Alan Black performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of C.J. and Teresa Shannon of Amsterdam, MO. Grandparents of the bride are Marion and Christine Beard of Independence, MO and the late Damon and Wilma Shannon. The groom is the son of Tom and Nancy Rahl of Union, MO. Grandparents of the groom are the late John Gunn and Rosemary Gunn of Union, MO and John and Helen Rahl of Brick Township, New Jersey.

In Loving Memory of Victoria E. McCulloh

Victoria E. McCulloh, wife of Harold Jean McCulloh, who passed away November 26, 2006 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Neal McCulloh and wife, Mark McCulloh and wife; and four grandchildren, all of Orlando, Florida. Vicki was a loving and energetic person and will be missed by her family and sister-in-law Bernice Reed.

Thurman Fred Shipley 1915-2006

Thurman Fred Shipley, 91, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, December 7, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, officiated by Pastor Larry Hess, Everett Community Church, Archie, MO.

Emma Mae Osborn 1920-2006

Emma Mae Osborn, 86, Archie, MO, died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the Atkinson Chapel, Archie, MO, officiated by Rev. Joe Crook, South Fork Baptist Church, Freeman, MO. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO.

"Official measure"

On Friday, December 1, 2006 the area awoke with one of the largest blankets of snow recorded. From the tabletop of the publishers deck the white stuff measured an even eighteen inches in depth.

Santa Train comes to Adrian

The Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad will again be sponsoring the Santa Train on Saturday December 9th. The train will come to Adrian at 9:00 a.m.

Turkey Giveaway

The Adrian Chamber of Commerce has placed boxes in many participating businesses for patrons to sign up to win a free turkey. The Chamber will give away ten turkeys on Monday, December 18. Watch the Adrian Journal for the winner.

Blackhawks to meet top seeded Indians

The Adrian varsity boys will play Saturday, December 9 at Appleton City in the semi-finals of the re-scheduled WEMO tournament. Game time is slated for a 4:30 tip off against the number one seeded Osceola Indians. The remainder of the tournament will be played at Cass-Midway on Saturday, December 16. Games will begin at 1:30 with both gymnasiums in action.

Lady Blackhawks claim first round victory

The Lady Blackhawks advanced to the semi-finals of the WEMO Conference Tournament by defeating the hosting Lady Bulldogs 49-37 in the opening round. Engaged to Wed--Sneed-Hubbard

Clay and Tammie Hubbard and James and Vicki Larch would like to announce the engagement of Kolby Dean Hubbard and Katie Marie Sneed. Katie is the daughter of Ed and Diane Sneed of Hume, Missouri. The wedding will be held December 23, 2006 at the Hume Christian Church.
