Full house

The Town Hall informational meeting held by the Adrian City Aldermen was well attended Monday night at the WMAT&MA's Ladies' Auxillary Building. The meeting was for patrons to ask or voice their concerns on the city's recent action to consider marketing the Adrian Manor Nursing Home. The city administration, along with their attorney, listened and commented to some of the concerns.

Ferguson sworn in at R-3 board meeting

At Thursday night's Adrian R-3 board meeting on October 19, Jim Ferguson, left, was sworn in by board secretary, Vanessa Tallman, right. Ferguson was recently selected from a pool of candidates to finish out the current year of Steve Cooper's term. Cooper resigned in August due to moving out of the district. Ferguson comes back to the Adrian Schoool Board with at least nine years of prior experience.

Districts on the line for Blackhawks

Lady Blackhawks advance to semi-finals in district play

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks defeated Knob Noster in the opening round of the Class 2 district 14 volleyball tournament. The Blackhawks, seeded fifth, upended their fourth seed opponent in three games, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-21.

Kenneth Hugh Barr 1920-2006

Kenneth "Kenny" Hugh Barr, age 86 of Butler, Missouri, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Willow Lane Nursing Home in Butler. Georgia Lee Tolliver 1927-2006

Georgia Lee Tolliver, age 79 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Graveside services were Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Salem Cemetery in Foster with Brother Bill Perkey officiating. Contributions to the National Audubon Society. Services were under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri.

Larry Belk 1941-2006

Larry Belk, 65, of Grove, Oklahoma, formerly of Butler and Adrian, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, MO. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Underwood-Brandtonies Funeral Home of Butler. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial follwed the service in the Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Adrian Christian Church New Building Fund.

Adrian Manor Administrator disputes Council's ruling

The city said yes, the administration said no. Monday, October 9, 2006, the Adrian Board of Aldermen voted to reinstate former activities director Nicki Greenwood, to the position she held for many years at the Adrian Manor, up until June 22, this year. When asked why he refused to comply with the city reinstating Mrs. Greenwood, Fetters replied bluntly, "Basically, we think the city had an error in judgment."To be honest, no one wants her here. The city is forcing us to take her back. They want her back as a department head and I don't think that is appropriate."

Blackhawks move to 3-0 in WEMO Conference

Lady Blackhawks win consolation in WEMO Conference Tournament

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks came away with the consolation title after competing in the WEMO Conference Tournament last Saturday in Drexel. The Blackhawks defeated their host in two games, 25-20 and 25-23.

Band takes second place

The Adrian Blackhawk Marching Band, under the direction of Kristen Stone, traveled to Warrensburg Saturday, October 14 to participate in the University of Central Missouri Homecoming parade. The band made a good showing, coming with second place. Absentee Voting

The Bates County Clerk's office will be open on Saturday, October 28 and Saturday, November 4 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for the purpose of absentee voting.

Siren test at 6 p.m.

According to Emergency Management Director Ron Dennison, the City of Adrian will conduct Siren Tests on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. If weather conditions do not allow for the test, it will be moved to the second Wednesday of the month. If the test cannot be accomplished, the testing will be held on the first Wednesday of the next month at 6:00 p.m.

Two semi trucks involved in early morning accident

Two truck drivers were injured in a two vehicle accident in Bates County Wednesday, October 4. The accident occurred at 2:35 a.m. on US 71 Highway, just north of Coop Road.

Aldermen to market Adrian Manor

The regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held Monday, October 9, 2006 in the City Hall of Adrian, Missouri. The Board discussed a grievance report filed by Nicki Greenwood for the termination of her employment at Adrian Manor. The Board decided to reinstate Greenwood and to reimburse the health insurance premiums lost due to her termination. The Council also passed a motion to look seriously into placing the Adrian Manor on the market.

Lady Blackhawks WEMO conference record moves to 3-2

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks played two WEMO conference matches last week, coming out on top against Drexel but falling to Osceola. Both games were on the Lady Blackhawks home court.

2006 Homecoming Queen

Cassidy Urie is the 2006 Adrian Homecoming Queen. The senior, escorted by Eli Ward, is the daughter of Holly Urie and Chris Urie. She received her crown during the halftime of the Blackhawks and Rich Hill Tigers game Friday night.

Adrian Bank makes dollar-for-dollar donation to R-3 sports complex

The Adrian Bank recently had a dollar-for-dollar matching donation in support of the new Adrian R-3 Sports Complex. The new complex will be developed on property east of Adrian's city park on 18 Highway. Adrian Bank received contributions of $3,556.00 in the drop box that was collected last Friday during Homecoming activities. The bank, in turn, added to the fund $3,944, to round out the contribution to $7,500.

Malinda Walden, daughter of Tina Baker of Osceola, Missouri, and Christopher Pemberton, son of Jim and Mary Pemberton of Garden City, Missouri will be married on October 14, 2006 at First Christian Church in Garden City, Missouri. The groom is the grandson of David and Sherry Alkire of Adrian. The wedding party will include the groom's siblings, Sherice Pemberton, James Pemberton and Denise Pemberton.

Register to Vote
