Adrian Homecoming Candidates and their escorts
This Friday will be an exciting day for the Adrian community, the school and especially for these candidates and their escorts. It's Homecoming 2006. Festivities begin with the parade Friday afternoon leading into the football game with the Blackhawks hosting the Rich Hill Tigers at 7 p.m. Coronation will be held during halftime of the contest.
Police Department working drug sale investigation
Monday, September 18, Chief Chapman arrested Shelly Hoss of Butler, after Hoss allegedly attempted to purchase pharmaceutical drugs from the Kreisler Drug store in Adrian. During the investigation Chapman discovered that a ring of criminals working in Kansas and Missouri were buying pharmaceutical drugs illegally and selling them. They apparently have been working out of Adrian.Chief Chapman contacted the Drug Enforcement Agency and Butler Police Chief Jim Garnett, to begin a full investigation. Federal indictments are pending on other suspects.
JV Blackhawks ease by Clinton Cardinals
It was the Adrian junior varsity's second game of the 2006 season when they hosted the Clinton Cardinals JV squad. The Adrian gang was victorious after the final tick sounded and the scoreboard showedd Home 22 and Visitors 20.
Jr. High Lady Blackhawks place third in Rich Hill tournament
The Adrian junior high Lady Blackhawks played in the Rich Hill tournament and placed third. Adrian faced Osceola, last years #1 team in the WEMO Conference and split two games with Osceola. Lady Blackhawks couldn't make it connect
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks went on a six match swing last week. Against Midway on Tuesday, the locals took the Lady Vikings to three games but came up on the losing end, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-14. The Lady Blackhawks also lost to KC Lutheran and Butler.

Gail M. Crane, 85, died peacefully on September 22, 2006. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Eldon, Missouri with Judy Bone P.M.A. officiating. Services were under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, Missouri.

Marvel Haesemeyer Forsha, 87, of Lexington, Mo. passed away Monday, September 25, 2006 at Ray County Hospital in Richmond, MO. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with burial in Lexington Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund for the elevator.

City named in Major Case Squad lawsuit
The Adrian City Council recently passed Ordinance 3912 to authorize membership in the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad. This group is made of a number of law enforcement agencies. The Major Case Squad was named in a lawsuit filed by Bob True Beisly II. Police Chief Charles Chapman said further information will be available to the public following Thursday's meeting.
Stolen vehicle followed; suspects not found
Monday, September 18 Officer Cole was dispatched on a report of the theft of a truck from a residence at the Talley Trailer Park. The truck's owner, Diana L. Burhart followed the truck north on Bates Street and onto Cemetery Road, where the suspects bailed out of the truck and ran into a field. The victim's truck was recovered with damage incurred. The investigation is on-going.
Barnwarming Royalty
The Adrian FFA Barnwarming was held Saturday night, September 16 in Frontier Village at the Adrian City Park. Named as the 2006 Barnwarming King and Queen were Sophomore Phillip Miller and Senior Brenda Arnold.
Blackhawks fall to Tipton; Have week off before conference schedule begins
Adrian was on the road last Friday for a non-conference contest with the Tipton Cardinals. The final score was 18-14 in favor of Tipton. The 2006 Blackhawks football team will take a week off to rest their wounds and then prepare to open the WEMO Conference schedule. On September 29, the Blackhawks will host the Rich Hill Tigers. Lady Blackhawks split in non-conference matches
On the road last week, the Adrian Lady Blackhawks first stepped on the court with the Lady Marksmen at Sherwood for a Monday night match. The Black and Gold had trouble at the opening service, but rallied to win the road match in three games, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-21. Tuesday night, the Lady Blackhawks played in a match with the Lady Bears. The final score was 25-18 and was in favor of Butler.

Linnie Lee Conley, age 85 of Mexico, Missouri died Friday, September 15, 2006 at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. Graveside services were Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler with Pastor Charles Mathis officiating. Contributions to charity of choice. Johnny Lee "John" Kershner dies
Johnny Lee "John" Kershner, age 54, Adrian, passed away Sunday, September 17 at his home. Funeral services will be Friday, September 22, 11:00 a.m. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation will be Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 til 8:00. Arrangements are under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian. A complete obituary in next week's paper.

Alyson Leah Hoots, 17, was born on September 27, 1988 in Clinton, MO to Brian Hoots and Bonnie Salisbury and passed away on September 8, 2006 at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Services were held Tuesday, September 12, 1 p.m. under the arrangements of the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola, MO with interment in Landaker Cemetery.

Lawrence Chase, 77, of Drexel, MO, passed away September 14, 2006 in his home. A graveside service was held at Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 18. Adrian remembers 9-11
Adrian VFW Commander Don Durbin and member John Petty raised the American flag and led the Pledge of Allegiance before the 9-11 ceremony held at the Adrian Fire Station on Sunday.
Suspect wanted for questioning in connection with bank robberies
John Earl Hall, who is believed to have recently robbed the Adrian Bank at gunpoint, appears to have struck again, this time across the Missouri and Kansas border. Wednesday, September 6, 2006, about two weeks after the Adrian Bank was robbed, a white male robbed the First Option Bank in LaCygne, Kansas.
R-III approves resolution authorizing sale of building bonds
President Jacque Underwood opened a tax rate and budget hearing special meeting of the Adrian R-III Board of Education on August 29, 2006. Motion was passed to set the Operating Levy at $3.4554 and the Debt Service Levy at $.9346, totaling $4.39 for the 2006-2007 school year. Motion was also passed to approve a Resolution authorizing the offering for sale of $4,900,000 principal amount of general obligation building bonds of the Adrian R-III School District.
Lady Blackhawks take 2nd in Archie Tournament
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks participated in the Archie Invitational Tournament last week. They met Archie in the championship match and fell in two games, finishing in second place.
Blackhawks are set back in second outing
Home field advantage didn't matter last Friday night, nor did the long ride for first time visitors from Orrick. The Bearcats came into Adrian last Friday night and racked up 453 yards on their way to a 44-6 thrashing of the Blackhawks.

Arrest expected soon in Adrian Bank robbery
The Adrian Police Department and the FBI have developed an out-of-state suspect believed to have been involved in the recent armed robbery of the Adrian Bank. An arrest is expected soon.
City moves forward on water plant improvements
A special meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in the City Hall of Adrian, MO. The Board voted unanimously to approve necessary improvements to the existing water plant to meet mandatory DNR standards.
Disappointing opener for 2006 Blackhawks
It wasn't exactly the way Adrian head coach George Bruto, his staff and the Blackhawks wanted the 2006 season to start--with a loss.
