The Missouri Highway Patrol headquarters has in its possession over 2200 pounds of suspected marijuana that was found in a truck stopped in Bates County at approximately 11:12 p.m. Thursday evening. Four individuals have been arrested. The substance has been estimated to amount to a street value of $3.3 million.

Mable Ruth-An Karr Welch, 96, died on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the Adrian Manor of congestive heart failure. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18 at the Atkinson Funeral Chapel, Adrian, MO.

Friday, July 7, Officer Thacker was contacted by Bates County Deputy Mark Frost in regard to a possible marijuana patch outside the city limits of Adrian. Bates County Sheriff Dough Mullenix, Deputy Frost and Officer Thacker confiscated an estimated street value of $7000 worth of marijuana.

Mona Lee Hooper, 82, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Butler, MO, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 3, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, MO.

Claude A. Mears, Jr., 72, of Lawrence, KS, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned.

Once again the Optimist Club is to be commended for a great independence Day celebration. The parade was great and all activities to park were again a big hit. The addition of the inflatable rides for the kids was a plus. Another big day for the city of Adrian, Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Transportation held a public hearing Thursday, June 29 in the Adrian City Hall. The purpose of the hearing was to present and discuss any questions and concerns of the redesign of the two blocks of Route 18 in the city's business district between Kentucky and Lexington.

Terry Ray Maring, 54, Archie, MO died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Services were held Monday, July 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Archie.

Mrs. Bessie Frances Highley ,79, of Archie, MO departed this life Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville. Services were held Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
