The morning was one of remembrance as Adrian VFW Post 1935 held a Memorial Day service at Crescent Hill Cemetery on Saturday.

Three people in one vehicle were injured in a two vehicle accident in Bates County Thursday, May 25, 2006. The accident occurred at 5 p.m. near the US 71 Highway and Missouri Highway 18 bridge, at Adrian.

Mrs. Ruth Timberlake Dowell, wife of former Adrian Journal publisher Emery (Soap) Dowell, passed away on Saturday, May 27 at the home of her daughter in Oakland, California.

"Astrorama 2006" will be held Saturday, June 3 from 7 pm to 11 pm at the Adrian City Park near Ferguson Arena, Adrian, Missouri, located at 71 Hwy & 18 Hwy. Free admission.

Mr. Hedrick reviewed the need to form an Adrian R-3 School Foundation. A motion was made by Cooper, and seconded by Lewis, to approve forming a school foundation called the Adrian R-III School Foundation. This foundation is a vehicle for distribution of donated monies.

The Missouri State 1 & 2 Class track meets were held Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Adrian qualified six athletes who competed in the season finale. Coach Matt Cochran said, "I thought the kids ran well. For the most part, we ran our best times of the year. Brian [Robards] took home three medals. That is an outstanding accomplishment. He has medaled three years in a row and has gone to state all four years. Russell [Hahs], Emily [Hunholz] and Brice [Peel] all ran well, too.

C.E. and Veta Lemon are celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary.

Wauneta Pricella Herrell Neff, age 75, of Adrian, MO died July 28, 2005 at the Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler.

Clarence "Biggy" Lloyd Herrell, 85, Harrisonville, MO died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville.

Alice Pauline "Gunnels" Owings, age 87, of Drexel, MO died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the Merwin Christian Church in Merwin, MO.

Lisa Wainwright and Emily Hunholz have been named as Co-Valedictorians of the 2006 graduationg class at Adrian R-III. Lisa is the daughter of David and Barbara Wainwright and Emily is the daughter of Marty and Alice Hunholz. Commencement exercises will be held Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2:30 p.m. at the Adrian R-III Gymnasium.

On Saturday, May 12 the Adrian track teams competed in the District track meet held at Higginsville. The boys finished fourth in the state qualifying meet. Four Blackhawks will be competing in the state championships to be held Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20 in Jefferson City. they are Russell Hahs, Brice Peel, Brian Robards and Emily Hunholz.

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks closed out their first season last Thursday. They played host to the Sherwood Lady Markmen and had their best game of the year by defeating the Lady Marksmen 20-7.

On Friday the Blackhawk baseball team played the Southwest Charter Knights. Adrian won 15-2 to advance to the semi-finals against the top team in the state, the Higginsville Huskers. The Blackhawks lost 18-0 and ended their first season with a 5-15 record.

Fifty years ago on May 25, 1956, John Dale and Beverly June (Houston) Hermann were all smiles as they wed. This May 25th they will again be smiling if they hear from friends and neighbors with a card shower on their golden anniversary. Please send cards to Route 1 Box 451, Adrian, MO 64720.

Pauline Elisabeth Walton, age 83 of Butler, Missouri, formerly of Dallas, Texas, died Monday, May 8, 2006 at Medicalodge Nursing Center in Butler.

Caroline Louise Swift, age 78 of Adrian, Missouri, died Friday, May 12, 2006 at her home in Adrian, surrounded by all of her children. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Butler.

A man died in a second accident to occur in the same location in less than a week. The second accident, involving two vehicles, occurred Thursday, May 4 about 9:45 a.m. According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a northbound 1002 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Thomas J. Eads, 20, Salisbury, Missouri, went off the left side of the roadway.

The Adrian Blackhawk track teams competed in the WEMO Conference track meet Saturday, which was held at the Archie Sports Complex. In the boy's division, it was the Adrian Blackhawks who came out on top with 127 points.

The Adrian Blackhawk baseball team played host to the Hume Hornets last Thursday, May 4th and lost a close one 2 to 1.

Delbert Bodenhamer and Kathlyn (Kay) Baie were married May 28, 1956 at the Adrian Baptist Church. They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by inviting friends and family on May 20th from 2 to 5 o'clock at the Johnson County Fairgrounds located on 50 Hwy. West, Warrensburg, MO. Alsie Irene Manser, 92, of Raytown, MO, died Monday, May 1, 2006 at White Ridge Nursing Center in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Virginia United Methodist Church in Virginia, Missouri.

Donald "Donnie" Russell Phillips, 59, Butler, MO, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at his home. Graveside/memorial services were held Tuesday, May 9 at the Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, MO.

Henrietta B. Jilek, 88, Archie, MO, where she resided with her daughter, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Underwood-Brantonies Funeral Home.

Jason Rugg and Wade Tenholder, of the Adrian FFA Chapter, both received the State FFA Degree, the highest degree members can receive at state level. Awarding the degree is based upon a member's Supervised Agricultural Experience Program in agribusiness or production agriculture, and leadership ability as demonstrated through involvement in FFA, school and community activities.

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks' softball team traveled to Leeton last Thursday, April 27 and lost 4-1. The Lady Blackhawks scored their run in the 3rd inning on a base hit by Tina Gillis. Jennifer Underwood gave up 2 earned runs and had 12 strike outs.

The Adrian Blackhawks traveled to Leeton last Thursday, April 27 and came away with a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs. Cody Knuth was the winning pitcher. He gave up 1 earned run and had 10 strike outs. Knuth's record is 2-2.

The Adrian Blackhawks traveled to Prairie View High School for the Prairie View Invitational last Thursday. Pleasant Hill took first out of the 11 teams with 97 points and the Blackhawks finished second with 91.

Kevin and Ashley Coones of Harrisonville, MO announce the arrival of their son Clinton Riley Coones on April 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 20 inches long.

Dustin and Sarah Lybarger of Ballard announce the birth of their son Aiden Donovan Lybarger, born Sunday, April 2, 2006 at St. Joseph Health Center, Kansas City. Aiden weighed 8 lbs. 6 ozx. And was 19 ½ inches long.
