Swap Meet at the "Village"
More than fifty vendors were displaying their wares last weekend at the WMAT&MA's swap meet at Frontier Village in the Adrian City Park. Items available for purchase were everything from tools to motorized bicycles.
Lady Blackhawks softball team defeats Lakeland
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks won their first softball game Monday night at Lakeland against the Lady Vikings. The score was 3-0.

Junior high wrestling proposal accepted by Adrian R-3 Board
During new business, wrestling coach Don Lile presented a proposal for junior high wrestling, to begin with the 2006-07 school year. A motion was made by Jacque Underwood and seconded by Steve Lewis to accept the junior high wrestling proposal, as presented. Motion carried.
R-3 receives Distinction in Performance Award
The Adrian R-III School District was recognized for receiving Accreditation with Distinction in Performance by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during a banquet March 9 at Central Missouri State University.

Tornado rips through area Sunday
In the aftermath of Sunday's weather that saw tornadoes cause a considerable amount of damage to the area, it was reported that there were no serious injuries within the boundaries of Bates County. Statewide reports have recorded nine deaths.
Compromise being floated between City and District 5
The regular meeting of the Adrian City Council was held Monday, March 13 in City hall. In conversation with Mayor Randolph on Tuesday morning, the mayor said that during the open meeting held on Thursday, March 2 a possible compromise was floated by Mr. O'Malley.

Mullenix takes oath of office
Brian Dough Mullenix was officially sworn in as Bates County Sheriff last Wednesday, March 1 at 9 a.m. by Marlene Wainscott, Bates County Clerk. Mullenix, who has been serving as the county's chief deputy, was appointed by the County Commission to fill the vacancy due to the recent death of Sheriff Sid Shippy.
Inmate scuffle sends one to hospital
An incident occurred in the Bates County Correctional facility Monday, March 6 that sent one inmate to the KU Medical Center. According to the sheriff's office, Ryan Gabriel, 32, of Butler, was taken to the hospital for a fracture near his eye. The investigation is continuing.
Burn Ban is lifted
According to Fire Chief Dizney, as of Tuesday, March 7, 2006, the recent burn ban has been lifted.
Indoor workout
During the rainy weather last week, Adrian Blackhawk thinclads held their workouts in the gymnasium as they prepare for the upcoming track season. The boys will be coached by Matt Cochran and Michael Toschi. They had 38 boys in the first workout. The girls, 19 in all, will be coached by Steve Lawrence and Brian Tenholder. Track season begins Tuesday, March 31 at Clinton.
Batter up!
Softball has been added to the Adrian Lady Blackhawks sports. The team has started practicing under the direction of head coach Jim Hogan and his assistant Sharon Goth. Fifteen players reported for the first practice. The season opener will be Tuesday, March 21 at Butler.

New to the sports scene this year at Adrian R-3 is baseball. Coaching the Blackhawks' new spring sport is Nathan Dingman. His assistant is James Wheeler. The season opener is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 at Butler.

Police investigates four cases of theft
This past week, Adrian police officers have worked four cases of theft, including one in which the officer had to deploy a taser at a fleeing suspect.
