Bates County Sheriff Sid Shippy, 57, of Butler, died Friday evening, February 17 at the Mayo Clinic following complications from heart transplant surgery. The surgery occurred December 8, 2005 at the clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Cass County chase ends in fatality accident

A man died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 after leading authorities from three counties on a chase down US 71 Highway.

Blackhawk wrestlers place 7th at State; Tyler Bise is state champion at 38-0

Tyler  Bise, State championAdrian wrestlers placed 7th as a team at the state tournament this past weekend. Out of the eight wrestlers that qualified, four of them brought home medals. Tyler Bise, 38-0, was the state champ at 152 pounds. He is Adrian's first high school state champ.

Blackhawks win two out of three

On Valentine's Day, the Adrian Blackhawks traveled to Drexel for a WEMO Conference clash between the black and gold squads. The Blackhawks won the match-up by defeating the Bobcats 67-49.

City Attorney Sounds Off

Adrian City Attorney Max Gordon held a meeting to discuss the recent water contract that Public Water District 5 has declined to sign. The reason for the meeting was to squelch rumors circulating about the reasons District 5 refused to sign.

No Burning

Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney, with the approval of the city alderman, has put a BURNING BAN in effect. Dizney asked that there be no burning until further notice.

State qualifiers

The Adrian Blackhawk wrestling team will be represented at the 2006 Missouri State Championships this weekend. Eight grapplers qualified last week after finishing fourth or above in the sections held at Warsaw.

Lady Blackhawks take third in Cass-Midway Tournament

The Lady Blackhawks captured 3rd place in the tournament last Saturday by defeating the Barstow Lady Knights 63-69.

City granted extra time by DNR for water contract

The City of Adrian has been granted additional time to try and work out an acceptable agreement with Water District #5 to come up with a water treatment plan. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has agreed to give the city until Wednesday, February 22, 2006. If there is no workable plan established by that time, Adrian will be pulled from the 2006 loan closing.

Blackhawk grapplers win at O'Hara

The Adrian Blackhawk wrestling squad traveled to O'Hara and scored a 48-24 win over their opponent. Then on Saturday, the bus left early for a trip to compete in the Raytown South Wrestling Tournament. The highlights there were Tyler Bise holding on to an unbeaten record in the 152 lb. class and Travis Williams bringing home the gold in the 215 lb. class.
