New Year Baby is Breckin Nisely, 6 month old son of Michaella and Marques Nisely, of Adrian. He is the grandson of Mike and Ronda Horner, of Adrian, and Jim and Tonia Nisely, of Butler.

Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO), the Ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, recently returned from a Congressional fact-finding trip to Afghanistan and Iraq, with stops in Qatar, Kuwait and Germany.

The Adrian R-3 elementary Christmas program was held Tuesday evening, December 20, in the east gymnasium. The program was under the direction of Mrs. Pat Arnold and Mr. Adam Twenter.

The Adrian girls basketball game lost a close contest to El Dorado Springs last Tuesday night. Despite shooting no free throws, the Blackhawks fell just 56-52. From the line, the Bulldogs outscored Adrian 16-0.

Bertha Ann Feezell, age 84, of Raymore, Missouri, died Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Brookdale Foxwood Springs, Raymore, Missouri. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 27, at West Point Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Ruth Barr Nixon, age 89, formerly of Leawood, Kansas, died on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor in Parsons, Kansas. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at the Mount Moriah &Freeman Funeral Home.

A special city council meeting was held Saturday, December 17, 2005 to discuss a water contract. Work on an agreement acceptable to both sides has been ongoing for several months, but to date, no agreement between the two parties has been reached.

The Adrian Blackhawks celebrated Courtwarming last Friday night when they hosted the Sherwood Marksmen. Senior Heather Newsome was crowned the 2005 Queen. She was escorted by Matt Eidson.

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks traveled to lamar last Tuesday night to face the Lady Tigers. Adrian lost the game 62-45. Sherwood came to town for Adrian's Courtwarming and the Lady Blackhawks lost in overtime, 55-51.

Tuesday night the Blackhawk boys basketball team hosted the Hogan Prep Rams. After a good start, the Blackhawks fell behind, losing 61-79. The Blackhawks did come out ahead Friday night, beating Sherwood 71-61.

The Blackhawk wrestlers traveled to Butler last Thursday night. Justin Hough, Wesley McDonald and Matthew Eidson won their matches, but the final team scores were Butler: 42, Adrian: 36.

Bessie Lorene VanSlyke, 77, passed away on December 15, 2005 at Cass Medical Center. Services were held Monday, December 19 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian.

The Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad once again sponsored the "Santa Train." The popular service brought many youngsters out last Saturday morning to visit with Santa Claus.

The Adrian Blackhawk basketball team played host to the Butler Bears last Tuesday night and lost to the bears 56-45. The loss dropped the Blackhawks' overall record to 2-3.

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks stepped up a class last Tuesday night by hosting the Butler Lady Bears. Butler won the contest 40-35.

Bill Perkey, a board member of Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, MO, was elected to a one-year term as an at-large trustee of the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees.

The Adrian Blackhawks were the host of the annual WEMO Conference basketball tournament held last week. The Blackhawks played for third place against Archie, losing 52-32.

The Lady Blackhawks met the Lady Bobcats of Drexel in the third place game of the WEMO Conference basketball tournament last week. Drexel came out ahead, 59-40.

Saturday, December 3, the Adrian wrestling team participated in the Pleasant Hill Wrestling Tournament where they placed 5th out of 12 teams.
