Last week the Adrian Blackhawks hosted the Drexel Bobcats in the first round of district football. Though Drexel was the first to reach the endzone, the Blackhawks held them to one score and dominated the rest of the game. Final score: 41-6.

The regular meeting of the Board of Alderman was held Monday, October 17. Mayor Randolph suggested that the work hours for city hall and the street and water crews be changed to 8:00 - 4:30, five days a week. The Board approved this proposal and it will go into effect October 31.

Twenty-five communities and 12 individuals were honored at the Missouri Community Betterment conference in Columbia. The city of Butler won the Grand Prize over the other 37 communities that entered this year.

Dorothy Belle Pruden, 76, Butler, MO, passed away on October23, 2005 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Underwood-Brandtonies Funeral Home, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.

Mildred Louise Kauffman Shaffer died August 18, 2005 at Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, California. Graveside memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 27, 2005 at West Point Cemetery, rural Amsterdam, Missouri.

John William "Bill" Gillis, 71, Archie, MO, died Monday, October 24, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, MO.

Dorothy Margaret "Dottie" Norris, age 46, Nevada, Missouri passed away Thursday, October 20, 2005 at her home. Funeral services were Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Showengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri.

Adrian R-III School has nominated Jill Hughes and Joshua VanSlyke for the coveted Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman recognition, this award honors the nation's top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme "citizen-scholar-athlete."

Two people were injured in a two vehicle accident in Bates County Friday, October 14, 2005.. The accident occurred at 11:05 a.m. on U.S. 71 Highway, one mile south of Missouri Highway 1, at Coop Rd.

October 10-14 was Fire Safety Week. Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney and his crew visited the Adrian Elementary on Monday. Chief Dizney spoke to students in kindergarten through 6th grade about fire safety.

The Adrian Marching Blackhawk Band participated in the Central Missouri State University Homecoming parade band competition last Saturday in Warrensburg, taking third place.

The Adrian Blackhawks were on the road last Friday night to tangle with their WEMO Conference opponent in Rich Hill. It didn't take long for Adrian to pull out their third conference win as they shut out the Tigers 48-0, upping their record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference race.

The Western Missouri Conference volleyball tournament was held last Saturday at Archie. Adrian finished third with a loss against Archie and wins over Cass-Midway and Drexel.

Marissa Ann Anderson would like to announce the upcoming marriage of her parents Melissa Ann Hill to Joshua Eugene Anderson. The wedding date is planned for January 28, 2005 at the Adrian Christian Church. The family will reside in Adrian.

Alex and Kjirsten Cantrell and big sister Alexis, Archie, MO announce the birth of their son and big brother Trenton Westhoff Cantrell on October 11, 2005.

Kendall Gustin Kersey, age 100 of Adrian, Missouri died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Bates Country Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Graveside memorial services were Friday, October 14, 2005 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri with Pastor Max Bowlin officiating.

Douglas A. Baker, age 44 of Kansas City died unexpectedly October 8, 2005 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services were Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Mark Hayward officiating.

Verna Rose Schindler (nee Anderson), 80, of Hazelwood, MO passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 12 at Grace Assembly of God, Florissant, MO.

The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department responded to two house fires at nearly opposite ends of town on Sunday, October 9.

The 2005 Adrian Homecoming Queen is Jessica McCubbin, daughter of Ronald and Treava McCubbin. The freshman candidate was presented the crown during the halftime coronation of last Friday night's football game between the Blackhawks and the Osceola Indians.

On Sunday, October 9, Bates County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Chuck Steele was flagged down in Butler by Mike Horner and was advised of a vehicle just being stolen from his residence southeast of Adrian. The suspect was taken into custody with the help of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Rich Hill Police Department.

Adrian's newest restaurant, Wimfield's on Main, officially opened Monday, October 10 at 6:00 a.m. The newly remodeled location includes two banquet rooms and a sports lounge.

It didn't start out quite like the Blackhawks coaching staff preferred, but when the final buzzer sounded, Adrian notched their second WEMO Conference victory with a 49-6 score over the Indians.

The hope of a perfect conference record was erased last Tuesday night when the Adrian Lady Blackhawks lost to the Osceola Lady Indians. They bounced back on Thursday night with a win over the Drexel Lady Bobcats.

Shirley Mae James, 65, Archie, MO, died Monday, October 3, 2005 at her home. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Archie, MO, officiated by her husband, Rev. Travis James.

LaVena Evangeline Dahman, age 90 of Buther, Missouri died Monday October 3, 2005 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Funeral services were Friday, October 7 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri.

The Adrian Lady Blackhawks had a sweep week as they pulled off two victories over WEMO conference opponents Miami and Appleton City, putting their record at 3-0. Overall the Black and Gold stands at 15-3-1.

The Blackhaks rolled up 325 yards and 23 first downs as they defeated the Bulldogs in Appleton City last Friday night 48-0. The Bulldogs were celebrating their Homecoming.

A new scholarship will soon be available to Adrian's graduating seniors, and to help build the scholarship fund a benefit country music Opry will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 30 in the Adrian High School east gym.

Cole Young, Editor-in-Chief of the Northwest Missourian, visited with Mrs. Kim Young's second grade and Mrs. Treva Smith's fifth grade class Friday, September 30th. Mr. Young explained the process of developing a newspaper from the beginning to the point of publishing.

To culminate another banner year, the Adrian Optimist Club held its annual Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet Saturday evening, October 1, 2005.

Britanni Hettinger and Justin Nichols announce their engagement. Brianni is the daughter of Royce and Brenda Hettinger, Drexel, MO and is a 2005 graduate of Drexel R-IV. Justin is the son of Jim Nichols, Butler, MO and Christy Carter, Holden, MO. No wedding date has been set.

Don and LynnDa Roberts of Raymore, MO, announce the engagement of their daughter Ashlee Roberts, to Dustin Bullard. Ashlee is the granddaughter of Jennie and the late C.W. Dale L. "Chip" Davis, age 46, Adrian, MO, formerly of St. Joseph, MO, passed away at St. Lukes Medical Center Saturday, October 1. Memorial services were held Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Sugar Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Russell Elkanah Lane III, also known as William "Bill" Johnson, age 60 of Butler, Missouri and the Passaic community died September 22, 2005 at his home in Passaic. A celebration of life was held at the home of his son, james Lane in Passaic, Missouri on Saturday, September 24, 2005.
