Early scare doesn't halter Blackhawks style or plan
Last week the Adrian Blackhawks hosted the Drexel Bobcats in the first round of district football. Though Drexel was the first to reach the endzone, the Blackhawks held them to one score and dominated the rest of the game. Final score: 41-6.
City Hall and employee hours change
The regular meeting of the Board of Alderman was held Monday, October 17. Mayor Randolph suggested that the work hours for city hall and the street and water crews be changed to 8:00 - 4:30, five days a week. The Board approved this proposal and it will go into effect October 31.
Butler receives Community Betterment Grand Prize
Twenty-five communities and 12 individuals were honored at the Missouri Community Betterment conference in Columbia. The city of Butler won the Grand Prize over the other 37 communities that entered this year.

Adrian students recognized in search for award
Adrian R-III School has nominated Jill Hughes and Joshua VanSlyke for the coveted Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman recognition, this award honors the nation's top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme "citizen-scholar-athlete."
Two injured in Bates County accident
Two people were injured in a two vehicle accident in Bates County Friday, October 14, 2005.. The accident occurred at 11:05 a.m. on U.S. 71 Highway, one mile south of Missouri Highway 1, at Coop Rd.
Fire Safety Week
October 10-14 was Fire Safety Week. Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney and his crew visited the Adrian Elementary on Monday. Chief Dizney spoke to students in kindergarten through 6th grade about fire safety.
Marching Blackhawks place third at CMSU
The Adrian Marching Blackhawk Band participated in the Central Missouri State University Homecoming parade band competition last Saturday in Warrensburg, taking third place.
Blackhawks pick up another conference victory
The Adrian Blackhawks were on the road last Friday night to tangle with their WEMO Conference opponent in Rich Hill. It didn't take long for Adrian to pull out their third conference win as they shut out the Tigers 48-0, upping their record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference race.
Lady Blackhawks finish tournament in third place
The Western Missouri Conference volleyball tournament was held last Saturday at Archie. Adrian finished third with a loss against Archie and wins over Cass-Midway and Drexel.

The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department responded to two house fires at nearly opposite ends of town on Sunday, October 9.
Homecoming Queen
The 2005 Adrian Homecoming Queen is Jessica McCubbin, daughter of Ronald and Treava McCubbin. The freshman candidate was presented the crown during the halftime coronation of last Friday night's football game between the Blackhawks and the Osceola Indians.
Homeowner pursues burglary suspect
On Sunday, October 9, Bates County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Chuck Steele was flagged down in Butler by Mike Horner and was advised of a vehicle just being stolen from his residence southeast of Adrian. The suspect was taken into custody with the help of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Rich Hill Police Department.
Wimfield's On Main now open
Adrian's newest restaurant, Wimfield's on Main, officially opened Monday, October 10 at 6:00 a.m. The newly remodeled location includes two banquet rooms and a sports lounge.
Blackhawks race past Indians 49-6 in Homecoming victory
It didn't start out quite like the Blackhawks coaching staff preferred, but when the final buzzer sounded, Adrian notched their second WEMO Conference victory with a 49-6 score over the Indians.
Lady Blackhawks suffer first conference loss
The hope of a perfect conference record was erased last Tuesday night when the Adrian Lady Blackhawks lost to the Osceola Lady Indians. They bounced back on Thursday night with a win over the Drexel Lady Bobcats.

Lady Blackhawks win two in conference play
The Adrian Lady Blackhawks had a sweep week as they pulled off two victories over WEMO conference opponents Miami and Appleton City, putting their record at 3-0. Overall the Black and Gold stands at 15-3-1.
Blackhawks roll over Bulldogs 48-0
The Blackhaks rolled up 325 yards and 23 first downs as they defeated the Bulldogs in Appleton City last Friday night 48-0. The Bulldogs were celebrating their Homecoming.
Benefit to be held Oct. 30 for the Daniel Patterson Scholarship Fund
A new scholarship will soon be available to Adrian's graduating seniors, and to help build the scholarship fund a benefit country music Opry will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 30 in the Adrian High School east gym.
