Optimists name top teachers

The Adrian Optimist club gave out their annual teacher awards on May 11. Earning the top High School award was Fran Haney while Peggy Heckadon won the elemntary award.

Drexel Woman files petition to contest April Election

Sue Bush-Wishon has filed a petition for a new election after she says many people in her ward, the West Ward in Drexel, did not receive the correct ballots. Up next for her case is a hearing with Judge William J. Roberts.

Shots fired in burglary

The Bates Co. Sherrif's Department is investigating an apparant shooting that occured May 4. At first it was believed to be a hunting accident, but more has come to light looking as though it has been an apparent shooting.

59th annual alumni meeting held

The West gym was packed Saturday night as the Alumni Association held their 59th annual meeting. Team wins Conference, then Archie Invitational

The Adrian Boys track team picked up the conference championship last Saturday. The boys scored 140 points, 26 more than second-place Cass-Midway. Tuesday, the boys were back in action, winning the Archie Invitational, scoring 104 total points.

Meet Cancelled

The Drexel Invitational Track meet has been cancelled for Thursday May 5. The meet which was scheduled to take place in Archie had to be delayed because the track is yet to be completed. It is still unknown whether the track will be prepared for Saturday's WEMO conference meet. If it is not, the meet will be moved to Belton High School.

Baccalaureate Service

Sunday May 15, the Assembly of God Church will hold the Baccalaureate Service for the Class of 2005. The service is set to begin at 7 p.m. and Rev. Ben Chapman of the First Baptist Church will deliver the message.

City of Archie asks for exemption

The city of Archie has requested additional time from the Missouri Dept. of Natural resources to install their water plant. If approved, the city would have until January, 2007.

Two Charged in Illegal Turkey Hunt

Two men from out of state were charged in an illegal turkey hunt in Bates County in mid-April. In addition, authorities say a Bates County man could also be charged.

Boil Order in Effect

A boil order has been announced for the Public Water Service District No. 5 for those living east of U.S. Highway 71
