Town Square Hardware and Variety - South Side of the Historic Butler Square

A friendly store with something for everyone

Harry and Carol Wells, proprietors, purchased Repp’s Hardware from George and Mary Lou Repp on July 1, 1991. At the present day location, there has been a hardware store there for over 100 years. Harry and Carol changed the name to Town Square Hardware.

The Wells moved to Butler in the Spring of 1968. Harry was employed by Furniture City before they moved to Clinton, MO. He then worked the next 17 years for Furniture House as a carpet mechanic and salesman. Carol was a homemaker and did janitorial work for Hudson R-9 Elementary School. She also worked as a childcare provided for several neighborhood children. Carol then worked in the feed business, Main Street Feed Station, which she and Harry owned until they purchased the hardware store. She also assisted with carpet installation and in everyday business operations.

Harry and Carol have one daughter, Robyn Eckhoff, who teaches business classes at Montrose R-14 School. She and her husband, Rob, who is retiring from Rolla Technical Institute in Rolla, MO, have two daughters, Kirstyn and Kalyn. The girls attend Hudson R-9 Elementary and are in the 4th grade and kindergarten, respectively. The Wells and the Eckhoff’s are active members of the Pleasant Gap Christian Church.
